If that dont work, this link will. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CMvHrq2DAGY

Of course, you know the answer before you asked it. The detector in the vid was a 'custom made' model, or so he says. One of a kind, something none of us can get our hands on, unless you are leading us into a sales pitch. If so, were all waiting.......
This detector, while it appears impressive, may as well be on the moon.

We never actually know what he is doing with the controls, either, when he is off camera.
We have to take his word that all is as it seems.

This proves one thing that I can see: there is a detector designer out there, somewhere, that SHOULD be working for Garrett.

Call me a skeptic if you want.

Cool vid. I'd like to see it really find something. Air tests, as the host implied, are not the same as real hunting. Still a cool detector and a cool vid. (As long as he's not fiddling with the controls off camera!)

Slingshot you crack me up. I thought no one could see the video so I reposted it thinking I done something wrong at first. Ok,just 4 you. Go to youtube and ,in search,,, put,,"custom metal detector sees through iron" Its too hard to explain. lol

Umm, I really didnt know if there was a detector out there that would do this.I think I got it now though.

But it is a good thing to know ,,that a dime ,quarter, whatever positive object will disapear by simply placing it on a larger item that has been discriminated out.( Discriminated item really dont have to be that big either) but as you move the positive target off center it starts to read.

My thoughts on the video: The object(negative target) is just on the edge of disrimination, special machine may not even have target ID, just all metal. Did you notice the tones did not change. Possibly could have added more rusty nail and got a reading or tone. Not sure.

Hey man. I'm seriousss. My computer is not picking it up. I may have to update my computer or something. Anyone have an idea what may be wrong? I get some kind of insignia in the corner with red, blue, and green objects apparently indicating a film or post or something must be there. Help!

Cool video, assuming the guy isnt cheating with the controls. But like everybody says, an air test dont mean much. If the iron and good target were buried together for any length of time the iron will have leeched out into the soil and totally surrounding the ring or coin , not just touching it or near it. I would really like to see how it actually does in the field tho.

Welll= I tell ya, sevral years back I was at an unscrupulous dealers (i didn' know this at the time) he was trying to sell me a detector (happenend it was a minelab=but he would have used anything), he was showing me the fantastic difference it was showing and sounding on different coins=I WAS IMPRESSED AS WERE THE BYSTANDERS, THEN WE SAW HE WAS DOING A SLIGHT OF HAND WITH COINS, switching coins to get the desired results and sell detectors= needless to say there were no sales made to the bunch of us that day=but he was a slick talker=OHHH HE WAS SLICK :veryangry:

Yeah air testing something like that is just a gimmick to sucker a few in. Air test mean very little except that your detector is working as advertised. If that was the case then everytime I got a new detector to field test I'd just throw a few coins on the rug, check them out, and write up my field test instead of spending 60-80 hours in the field testing the machine out. Believe me, in the early days of this hobby some of the treasure magazine editors done just that.

Well, the Ace 250 is a completely different machine altogether. The Ace 250 has an LCD readout with notch discrimination. Even when an item is "discriminated out" or "notched out" for that matter, the machine will still Show it on the display, but will not make an audio signal. Some hunters really like having the ability to "notch out" specific targets and pick up others of higher(or lower) conductivity. So, if a BIG nail or WRENCH is laying right next to a quarter, the Ace may miss the quarter(A very good reason to dig every target).
However, this guy is using some old analog machine to "dial out" the objects of lower conductivity. Man, any old analog detector will still pick up an object of higher conductivity laying next to an object of lower conductivity that has been "dialed" out.
I don't see what the big deal is. At one point the guy has the search coil abou 4 or 5 inches above the target and says it's pickin' it up at a good ten or twelve inches. Give me a break.
Happy Hunting!:)

- - but it gets pretty close. I found it would hit a dime, 2" from a cut nail, during my initial tests. This was with the stock coil.
Believe me, that 'aint shabby. The best I could manage was 3" with my GTP 1350/stock coil combo.
Good target separation is one of the strong points of the Ace.

One other good thing is the Ace offers iron tone ID. That little beeper shown in the vid, the The Colonel or Ensign or whatever it was called, had none of that. One tone that's all.
Iron ID features should be a primary selection choice in any detector. I'm utterly disenchanted with those detectors that don't offer it.
