Can anyone help i.d. this?

don't know but wow what a super find

It's a piece where women used to hang their shawls, handkerchiefs, bandannas... as the picture of the lady on the frame part. Just my thoughts, but I'll have an older women that lived close to that era and see what she says... Very Nice Find...

Neat find! What is its size? Also, is it thin metal or thicker? At first guess, it looks like some type of ornate hook from the 1890s or so. It has a really nice patina too so don't clean it too much.

I think it is an old suspender or dress strap adjustor .......I've never found one that ornate.

Thanks for all of the responses - I knew you guys would be able to help. The text that I originally included with the picture did not get posted. The piece is about the size and weight of a half dollar, and the metal is relatively thick. I have found CW bullets in this area as well as two seated coins so that kind of dates the area. This area has been plowed a couple of times and has horses on it now. The ground consists of a very soft upper couple of inches covering hard clay and this piece was less than 3" in the ground. Really, I thought I had a piece of trash.

It sounds to big and heavy to be used on a woman's garments, even in the old days. I still think it was used as some sort of hanger in the house. The style looks post Civil War but I may be way off. Good luck and I hope you can find out how it was used (maybe send to W&E Treasure magazine?).
