Can anyone help????

Hi:

One of the new members is having problems with the pinpoint and finding his target.
I used to have the same problems when I first got the Ace but once I learned to
detune I usually find every target, unless its a false signal of course.
I sent a personal message back trying to explain how to detune but I'm not sure I
explained it too well. Can anyone please post something here? The existing DVD on pinpointing
needs to be better. I doesn't talking about pinpointing at all.

Regards
RObert R

It's not just the Ace. I detune my target with any detector. It just makes it easier. I think Garrett leaves the detuning part out because it's hard to explain. But they could easily show people in the DVD. The only place I don't detune is in the sand when I use a scoop.
NEVERMIND! I just found the post that addresses the issue for him.
Nicely done too!
RR
Could you point me in the direction of that post? Thanks

Just follow the thread below tis about being frustrated pinpointing.
It took me a little getting used to but I finally got the detuning down and it has
helped wonderfully well. But to explain it is hard. I have to really be there
with someone to show them what I'm talking about. A good DVD showing it
would be just as good. In fact thats a good project for someone with a
DVD recorder to put together. Maybe it could then be posted here at FindMall
for reference.

it's ok everyone I was the goofball he is talking about, but in the meantime of RR answering me, I got it figured out last night with the cardboard trick and taping coins. Someone ought to make that instructional and make it a sticky somewhere! It was the thing that helped me more than anything!

It is my 1st video so I hope it works. I uploaded it and youtube says it's being processed. I don't really know what that means? If it all works out I'll post a link. Meanwhile you can try a search of - garrett ace 250 pinpoint I have to leave for a few hours so maybe you'll see it before I do!

Look up under tech support.
I wouldn't be calling myself a goof ball goes4ever. You must have been reading the instructions!:nono::lol: Trying to pinpoint like that will send you nuts. Hopefully they will rewrite it one day. I tell you what. If you want a lesson on how to get totally frustrated pinpointing, then buy an X-Terr 30. I've got around 250 hours on that sucker, and despite making more finds per hunt with it than the Ace and thinking that I had it figured out a couple of times, pinpointing with it, is still like you were experiencing with the Ace till recently. I've had many a dark thought about it over time. These days I put a DD coil on it and always take my pocket probe with me. Never do that with the Ace! Little wonder I prefer to hunt with it.

The strangest thing happened a while back as i was having problems myself pinpoint targets with my ace 250, but I never realized the smaller center coil is actually oval as is the outer coil, so when ever I was pinpointing I thought the inner was only the small area that sheds light when you look down at the coil, but in all actuality the pin pointer coil is an oval at twice that size and in-turn threw off what i considered to be dead center. After a few weeks of digging targets that were never all that accurate it dawned on me what i was doing wrong.
