Can anyone vouch for "dmitchstevens"?

I am corrosponding with dmitchstevens, he replied to my request for someone selling an E-Trac. Not knowing him, I requested a picture of the equipment with him in it and a picture ID of him , as an attemp to qualify the deal. Everyone knows there are scammers all over the internet, I am trying not to be a victim. If anyone has bought or sold anything or can solidly vouch for him, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks for the help. Mike 302-388-5727

Never dealt with him,but you can do a search in the feedback forum.

i'm talking to him too about an item he has for sale - although I believe that he was looking to buy an E-Trac recently not sell one.
i will use paypal for protection if we make a deal.
it appears he has bought a few items from others here - based on his older posts.
PM me if you get any additional info - thanks.
Barry

He seems to only sell things . I have been wondering myself as he has some coins i would like to buy. When I click on his show all post , most are for sale things.

Well, I have received quite a few responces about dmitchstevens... it appears that a few have concern with him also. I reequested a phone call 4 times to discuss other options for my purchase with NO replies. I guess my conclusion is to not risk the $1000. Thanks for all the help with this inquirey, I certainly appreciate it. Have a great winter and warm weather is coming! Regards, MIke

Good move - didn't want PayPal - that's the first red flag for me from a seller - especially one who has so much for sale....
Also, an item he appeared to have bought here as used, he was trying to pass off to me as new.
Finally, he claimed in a PM he was 70 years old but in an old post he says he is 37.

awesome. Some people are so lucky with location. I have hunted all summer and still looking for dirst silver coin. I'm not giving up thoughh. I love this hobby. I just wish I had got introduced at a younger age. I am 37 so hopefully i still got a few hunts left to go. Good luck and HH

I traded detectors with dmitchstevens and he said he shipped it to me after I questioned him about it. So I gullibility shipped my detector to him. He sent me a least a dozen messages saying how honest he was. He never shipped his detector and I am now in the process of contacting the Post Office to send my detector back to me. Does anyone know how to contact the Post Master to get mine back? It's supposed to arrive Mon or Tues....Don

Don- it's supposed to arrive at HIS location on Mon/Tues?
If so - you need to visit YOUR local post office where you mailed it from...Monday first thing in the AM.
Did you track it or have it insured?
Good luck Buddy - I really hope it works out for you.

The facts you describe, the other 'experiences' of forum members (and not the good kind of expereinces) leads me to the conclusion that you pass on this.

This is awful. First, mcb613 comes on here and says all these bad things about me. The reason he is mad is because I wouldn't send him a pic of my driver license. Woulds you>??????????? He said,"you can't steal a persons identity with just drivers license. I say bologna. So take it for what its worth. Now its because of these post I have had two transactions made a mess of. So Findmall you can have it. I'm not dealing with this. After all my things are exchanged and delivered I won't be back to sale or trade. People are just to quick to jump on the ban wagon

I just talked to Mitch Stevens and he assured me his detector was shipped today (Sat) instead of Thursday when he originally said it was shipped. His brother was supposed to ship it, but didn't. I checked today's tracking number he just sent and it was legit.

Please wait until Monday Jan 10th when his detector should arrive here - I will inform everyone at that time of the results....Thanks, Don

It is unfortunate, but after just talking to Mitch again I am having my detector shipped back to me and he is doing the same. When I called him a few minutes ago to talk about both shipments he abruptly hung up on me. It looks like I have no other alternative but to stop our exchange. I'm sorry things didn't work out....Don

dmitchstevens------Don't get "all up in the air" with me to but I have one question I would like to ask (have answered).----May not seem to have relevance to a deal----but truth is important/EVERYTHING--right??----Are you 70 yrs. old (as stated) OR 37 yrs. old (as stated)???------Was there a mis-understanding on what your age is?-----I mean no dis-respect in asking this but it would seem this needs to be clarified, for as I said--truth (and understanding) is EVERYTHING--in a deal or ANYTIME!------------Regards, Del

Seems everyone is a bit jumppy here! No I havn't received my stuff but that's because it hasn't been mailed yet. I talked to Mitch yesterday and he seems like a very nice intelligent guy! I really don't understand why this PayPal thing is what it is. There are several people on these forums that DON'T have PayPal. A guy can get screwed with PayPal just the same as with any other source of payment. Any way you do it you are taking a chance. We are in the millennium now and there are people that can do ANYTHING with money! Two years ago within a week of each other, my daughter and myself had our credit card info stolen. I consider a CC to be a safe form of paying for things but it's not. Whoever done it had bought $2000 worth of shoes on each card from the SAME high end store in New York! Anyway, I've been in the same situation as Mitch when the goods didn't get mailed when they should have. I guess what I'm saying here is that a person should not judge or make an accusation against another until all the facts are on the table.I myself and I'm sure others were in the same position when the buying and selling started. Everyone was asking who the hell I was because they had not heard of me. A guy has to get started some how and it just happens that Mitch had a bit of bad luck with the package not getting mailed on time. I have every reason in the world that I can think of that Mitch WILL send what I paid him for! We had a nice little talk on the phone yesterday and that is all I needed from him to tell me that he is a TRUSTWORTHY man! Give the man a chance!!!

OK Gilly - I'm happy you are more comfortable now hopefully the transaction goes smooth for you.
With PayPal - you have protection against a bad transaction.
I'm sure you never had to pay the charges for those improper transactions on your credit cards...with a Money Order - once it's cashed it's gone.
I, for one, like the comfort of PayPal - that's what made e-bay so successful.
Other things with Mitch didn't add up for ME: the age issue and stating the X-1 probe was never used when it was purchased here from someone who advised it was 8 months old...
Good Luck.

Here is my final episode dealing with dmitchstevens.
1. I faxed and called the post office destination that I sent my detector to (Fall Rock KY) today and asked them to hold my package. It was sent to a P. O. Box number.

2. My home post office had told me to call the Fall Rock (FR) post office immediately after they opened today (Mon) - which I did. The lady clerk in FR took my info and said she would hold it until I called her back.

3. I called back the lady at the post office in FR about an hour later to see if dmitchstevens had come in. She said he had arrived about 1 minute after I called her to hold the package. She said that if I hadn't called when she opened he would have received the package. dmitchstevens told her he would send me an email.

4. dmitchstevens sent me an email saying he told the clerk to send it back to me. The FR clerk told me he never told her to send it back to me. The clerk also told me to ask for the insurance number of the detector dmitchstevens supposedly sent to me (he did send a tracking number which indicated it was still in ILL where he "sent it" from ) on Priority Mail 2 days ago. Apparently the PO can get more info from the insurance # i.e. was it actually sent, how much it weighs etc.

5. I emailed dmitchstevens and asked for the insurance # and he said "no need". He said he was on the phone all day to get his detector sent back to him. He also said he had another trade going on a different forum for the same detector he was sending to me.

6. There are 2 steps needed to get a package returned from the post office. 1) Call the receiving PO and have them hold the package, 2) Fill out a Recall form at the post office you sent it from and that post office then faxes the completed form to the destination post office. There are no short cuts to this process which I had to.

I feel very fortunate that my detector is being mailed back to me by the post office. I have nothing but praise in the way the post office handled my request.

Maybe I was too cautious, but when someone says they shipped you the detector on Thursday (when I shipped mine) and even quoted the shipping cost - and then later said it really wasn't shipped until Saturday, a big red flag was waving. You can make your own conclusions. It was a scary experience, one that I hope none of you have to experience personally...Don
