Can I take my GTI1500 out in torrential rain?

I know the coil is waterproof, but can I take my 1500 out when its lashing it down? I have the control box cover but do I need to cover up the battery compartment and headphone socket?

regards

Blake

My vote would be no. Better safe than sorry.. I've heard of people waterproofing there detectors and maybe they will post how they did it.. But I would never risk my GTI 2500 with it's weather cover and bags over the rest of it. Water seems to be able show up in the oddest places. Like when if it only rains one drop that drop will be on the inside of your eye glasses.. This is just my personal opinion.

I wouldn't either.:nono: I'd be even more concerned about being struck by lightning!:yikes:Happy Hunting!:)

In the past, I've hunted in light rain. Sometimes with the coverup on, sometimes not. On a hot, humid day this past summer I got caught in a cloudburst and continued to hunt. My 2500 developed some condensation behind the view screen. It had only rained for a few minutes. I hunted following the cloud burst and the condensation began to go away. I probably should have quit. When I got home I opened up the control box a crack and let my 2500 dry out thoroughly overnight in a warm dry place. There were no lasting effects from my stupidity.

I agree with the others. Don't hunt in the rain. If you choose to hunt in very light rain, mist,, or light snow, use your coverup at a minimum.

Oh by all means take that non water proof detector out and get it full of water, the repair dept. at GARRETT will love you, I'am sure
there R & D would like to take a peek at just what fry'ed also! What new model have you been wanting to buy by the way? Might
want to mush a little bit of mud in some of the cracks for good luck also! Enjoy your hunt and hope you find enough to foot the
repair bill. HH

Well, the new model is going to be a Fisher F75 because the 1500 is giving my tennis elbow a real hard time! I'll swing the 1500 for the first hour, then swap over till my arm has had time to recover:clsoedeyes:

Have you tried hanging the battery pack on your belt. Knocks off a pound. Over on the Infinium Forum is a gizmo called the " Swingy Thingy" that takes all the weight off your arm. Check it out. I been thinking about getting one for my 2500 and Infinium.
