Can not figure it out??

alot of you find the barbers and seated coins.. I find silver coins but always mercs, washingtons, rosies. Also find rings, wheaties!! But never find the barbers and seated coins am I not doing something right?? Are they usally deeper?

Thanks, M.L. Hinds (Lee)

you find what you swing the coil over!! MAYBE your not digging those softer crappy signals??? Are you finding Indians?? Looks like if your finding Mercs and silver Washington Quarters then you should be finding Barbers, unless the Parks are not as old as you think???

I find lots of mercs rosies wheats Washingtons... did you also notice its usually dimes?(they're small i guess)I do dig the deeper funny sounds, just dont get the older silver much, Havent given up though. I personally just think people didnt loose a whole lot of change back then but I know they are out there.

I agree - it's location. It's a challenge to find those older parks that have not been reworked. I live in the Suburbs of Cleveland. Most of the parks were formed after the 30's so the IHs, Barbers and Seateds are pretty non-existant in these parks. We have found two parks that date back to about 1900. These are the only two parks we have found IH's, Barbers and seated coins in.

..try some old home sites. I'm sure you know some people who have old homes. Do research, hit old church lots, old one room schools. Location, Location, Location. I went through the same thing your going through when I first started detecting.

If you're absolutely certain your area is old enough and was actively used, to contain older coins? It's my experience the older coins are generally deeper than 6 inches (7-11 inches), sound fluety (broken), and probably are not repeatable 360 degrees. You might consider trying IM -15 and sensitivity up to machine instability, gain at 9 to magnify deeper signals. Only have a few years with my ML, and it's working well for me... HH
