I have been helping a new hunter. Teaching him how to dig a plug. Slow down. Keep his coil flat to the ground. The other day he heard me saying bad things about CAN SLAW. He kept asking me , What is CAN SLAW. Well I showed him a piece. I told him when people leave there pop cans lay in the park or where ever they are. They get run over with a lawn mower. CAN SLAW goes flying all over the place. In just a short time the CAN SLAW will work its way into the ground. Well, here we come detecting and trying to find something nice. You know,, Coins and jewelry. Here comes that CAN SLAW.. Now you know what CAN SLAW is. So put your trash in the trash can, Not on the ground. I hate that crap.... KEN
 
Yeah...amazing what people toss and drop. Good sign depending on the amounts,age and depth to tell if a place has been hunted hard for jewelry or just coins though. Good Luck with your apprentice!

What's really irritating are the park employees who run soda cans over with their lawn mowers because they're too lazy to pick them up first.

They're just as lazy as the people who use the lawns for a trash can.

You are so right. The other day I was at a tot lot and the park people were mowing. I know for sure that they fit 3 cans. They also fit many paper cups and some bags. They are lazy... KEN
 
Can slaw does have a benefit : Keep some of it handy when you are in a park and get approached by potentially hostile grounds keepers or nosy citizens.
Show them the shrapnel and explain that you are doing your part , nay, CIVIC DUTY to keep some poor shoeless child from getting their feet cut to ribbons and the local governing body from getting SUED !:thumbup:

These days, it pays to be creative !!
 
I'm always amazed at what I pull out of tot lots. I have found razor blades, hypodermic needles (uncapped), can slaw, nails, stiff wire, broken glass, screws, open safety pins and countless other items that could prove very harmful to a small child. I noticed some new tot lots having pelletized rubber from old tires for filling......in hunting these, I have pulled a LOT of very nasty, stiff, rusted wire, obviously from the tires. They probably have a magnetic method of removing this stuff, but, a great deal gets through.

It's not difficult to justify the need to have the money and jewelry removed from the playgrounds, :biggrin:
