Can someone please give me the real scoop on a GTI 2500

I have a chance to pick one up and have been told do not do it..I am just wondering if I was told wrong

I've had great success with all my Garrett detectors and still run the 2500. I would say the person who told you that owns another brand of detector and never even ran a 2500.
I have a friend that is a die hard Whites man and nothing else is any better then his whites. But he told me that i always find more then him. I can say I've owned top of the line detectors from the Whites DFX,Fisher coinstryke, Garrett GTA1000,GTI1500,GTI2500 and started with a Bounty Hunter. I found things with them all but always came back to the Garrett detector. Why ? Easy to use no programing or page after page of screens to go through. You don't have to worry about sweep speed and the preset programs will work great right out of the box with good depth. And last of all THE GREATEST SUPPORT YOU WILL GET ANY WERE !!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't know why anyone would not want you to buy a top of the line metal detector? Let the truth be known, all high end detectors get nearly the same depth, give an inch or so. There just hasn't been any ground breaking new technology out there for that to happen during the last 25 years. Some will go deeper under certain conditions, while another will do better under some other conditions. There is no such thing as the "DEEPEST" detector out there....it simply doesn't exist. Depth should never be the be the number one reason for buying a detector. You always have to look at any statistics someone is giving you and re-think them. What type of coin was it that went that deep? What kind of soil conditions? How big was that coil? These are just some. Some detectors have an edge depth wise over another, then lack discrimination abilities. Some don't go as deep as another, but have excellent discrimination abilities. Think.....what type of hunting are you going to do? Do you want to dig everything? Do you want to save time by leaving some junk in the ground? How much effort do you want to put into a detector to have it running smooth and stable? Are you a computer geek who likes a zillion different ways of setting up the machine? What about warranty, dependability, simplicity, available accessories, company support.

I can't put any one detector down, because in the right hands it will perform better then well. And of course, a high end machine in the wrong hands is not a good success story either. So why might you consider the GTI 2500? As with most Garretts, it makes an excellent coin and jewellery hunter. I will personally breaking the 100,000 coin mark with my Garretts in about another 5-6 months. I am a statistic nut, and track all my finds. The Garrett 2500 also has the ability to size a target in the top 6-7 inches. Is it 100% accurate all the time? Heck no....but once you learn it and its limitations, you can guess with a very high probability whether it's a coin size object or not. Great information to know if you are looking for coins, rings, old minnie-balls etc. and Garrett has the patent, so no other manufacturer has this feature. Want to increase depth? Use the large imaging coil....the larger the coil, the deeper the search pattern (to an extent) Garrett has a good selection of coils to increase your depth in both mineralized and non-mineralized soil.

So, do your own thinking and ask a lot of questions. I have never met a person who has learned how to properly use the GTI 2500 and sold it. And if you look in the classifieds, you just don't see a lot old GTI 2500's come up for sale. I wonder why?

I use the 2500. If there's anything wrong with it, I haven't noticed. It's a bit heavy, but that's my only meaningful criticism.

Whoever imparted that info to you has either never used one or has bats in their belfry. The 2500 is one of the finest machines on the market - sort of the Cadillac of detectors. I field tested the 2000 and then the 2500 when it came out years ago and still own one. You can't do much better than a 2500 no matter what you hunt for or where you hunt.

Bill.
