Can you add a remote switch to a GT and still be able to use the original switch too???

I'm going to add a PP switch and want to know how to hook up the wiring. It seems if you wired to the original switch, it would cause a problem when you switched to another mode. Can some one give some advice???? Thanks. Chris

The remote switch, should just be wired parallel to the all-metal switch.

When using the remote switch, if you are set to 'tracking', 'fixed', or 'all-metal', that would be the mode you will be in when using the remote switch.

All you have to do, is reall make sure you wire to the side of the switch that causes a short, when switch to 'all-metal'.

good luck.

I added a switch to my GT pretty easily. When you open the case, undo the coil connector and remove the circuit board and interference shield. Careful taking the earth (paperclip+black wire) off the shield. Four screws to the front panel; three in a line and one below the middle one. You can't see that one until the circuit board's out. When the front panel's off you can get to the switch. Be very careful you don't touch the flat connector ribbon with a soldering iron. You can take it off but I wouldn't advise taking it off the front panel as although it's plugged into the circuit board, on the front panel end it's one of those pressed on connections rather than a plug. I carefully soldered three wires on the terminal's of the switch and it worked fine in tandem with the existing switch.

However, once I was happy it worked fine, I cut the connectors to the existing switch and removed it completely and blanked it off on the front panel. I wouldn't recommend anyone else do that, but it suited me to get it out of the way. If anyone does remove the original switch, be advised that you'll be taking the rigidity out of the wire connections from the board and you'll definitely need to reinforce those to avoid breaking the connection's on the board. I used Araldite and a wooden toothpick to tie the three wires together and it worked good. In theory you could move whatever switches you like onto your straight shaft handle, but all these mods do carry an element of risk. Get it wrong and your GT will be TOAST.
