Metal detecting in an old park around a buried foundation, this was uncovered. I love rocks and kept this one but really I don't know anything about them...looks like something the indians would have made arrowheads out of...any info about this would be appreciated!!!

Des Moines, Iowa

I think you've got it correct. It sure looks like chert to me.

That is what I thought, is it unusual to find it in the middle of the city in a local park?? no other rocks in the area...

It looks more like slag. I say this because I haven't really seen obsidian or chert with those type of holes in it. Where there any old furnaces in this area?

Good point, it could be clinker from a furnace. Any old rail lines nearby? I've seen it used mixed with limestone gravel around the ties/rails.
