Cancun Mexico

I am taking my family to Cancun this summer and am thinking of taking my XS along. But I need to plan this out with the right kind of data so if anybody could help out here are my questions.

1 - Is it worth even taking it along?
2 - Can you hunt on the beaches down there?
3 - Most importantly - is there any beaches close by that are near ship wreaks where I could maybe luck on to a Spanish gold coin (Like Padre Island in Texas)
4 - How do you take the detector on the plane? I assume you check it but is there any problems?
5 - How good is the XS in 1 foot of water or so? or do I need to stay high on the beach? I am a dry land hunter so this will be new for me.

Any help would be beneficial for my planning.

Its worth it, a lot of tourists go to Cancun and lose a lot of jewelry, believe me, most mexicans dont have interest or have never seen a detector before so your chances are good on finding gold/plat jewelry, and specially good since silver is extremely abundant in mexico.
