Capri_Auto and I Had a Good Day Today...

Sorry no pics yet. We hit the same site as our last epic hunt this AM at 8:00. It was a scorcher here in the NYC area today! Last time we meandered looking for good signals trying to get a read on the site...today was a much more cumbersome methodical grid approach basically digging most signal while we could bare the heat. Chris struck first silver in the AM and I'll let him post his pics as he did well too and found some interesting items! I dug a few early wheats and then finally dug what looks like an OLD Sterling Silver decorative edge to a collar, photo, or book cover from between some large roots - signal was strange as it was folded and a tough dig , but it's still in nice shape! An fully intact old brass skelton key (must be original to early 1800's house). A crushed top to a silver salt shaker.....and then right before quitting for lunch a complete minature Sterling SIlver salt shaker. A Whatzit with the number "32" raised on it that looks to be about the size of the head of a common nail. Old snap. Came back a bit later and did well again:

1900 O Barber Dime (my first O mint mark!!)
1849 Large Cent (second LC in two hunts!...this was on edge under a large root!)
Ornate "Reformed SS" Copper Religous pin
A gorgeous spoon handle with a pic of cupid at the apex (Lover's Spoon)
A colonial spoon handle (pewter) so old it's flaking away - Revolutionary War era?
A small token from a trolley line that has long since gone from the area
The top of what appears to be a very old children's spoon (?)
Very patina'ed lead disc about the size of a cent with dimples in center of each side (old seal???)
A old lovely woman's one piece cuflink with floral motif.
A few other interesting Whatzits that I'll post soon....

Most of these finds are soaking in peroxide as we speak - pics will be posted when cleaned! Four silver, lots of history, and a Large Cent, plus more is a good outing!

On another note the 1864 2-center I found last trip out after peroxide bath is so crisp it looks like it was dropped the day it was minted! Pics soon.

Thanks Chris for a great day hunting with you again! We have several acres yet to be covered!

Thanks Bell - I look forward to posting the finds. I'd be happy to take you right to this particular site (once we've covered every inch! :bouncy: ..... just kidding ) I hope you do come out this way for some hunting -- lots of good sites, but I would imagine parts of Texas would be amazing too. Hope to meet you sometime either here or there!
