Finished one of my Carbon Fiber shafts today withe help of a couple of drills and a hacksaw. Made it for my excal as a travel shaft. The handle upper part is carbon fiber also ,the cuff is from stock excal shaft but cut off the lower half to sit on top of shaft. replaced all screws with nylon screws. Don Tyler Merrimack,NH

Nice work! I would love to make a setup like this for my Sov GT. Where do you purchase the carbon fiber shaft from? Thanks - Jim

jeff@clearwatercomposites.com 3/4ID 7/8 OD x72" enough for 2 rods I use white lower rods tall man in mine. Let Jeff know that you talked to me so he will know just what you want Don

Very nice. Did you measure the difference in weight from the stock setup? I've seen a few different home-brew projects here for this kind of thing but haven't pursued it my self - yet. But it looks like it would be a substantial weight difference. Your setup looks really good. Well done!

This is another excal carbon fiber shaft I just finished for my other excal Thanks for looking Don Tyler Merrimack,NH

My stock arm cuff lasted about 2 months...... didnt like it anyway because it never came with the velcro to keep your arm in place. Nice set up..... i really think if you use the ML carbon fiber lower you are better off with the upper being fiber too. Sometimes those aluminum uppers tend to blister inside from the salt water with digs into the lower rod and they freeze up FAST. Nice work.... what did he charge you for the tubing shipped?

Nice set up.

Isn't the lower shaft on the Excalibur fiberglass? Never looked close at one but my GT's stock lower shaft is a very heavy fiberglass. The Tall Man Whites Lower Fiber Rod is about twice the length and still lighter, and much cheaper than the Minelab stuff last time I checked. When I got my tall man rods directly off Whites site they were $10 a piece. I think they are $20 now but still a heck of a value which includes a coil mount and the snap adjustment pin. Picked up their heavy duty arm cup for $10 which includes a strap and is much lighter than the stock 8.8 ounces of the GT arm cup.

Not sure if they sell carbon fiber tubes in large enough stock but google Midwest Products. In RC many guys use them for very cheap carbon fiber tubes for plane builds. At least back about 7 years ago they had some of the cheapest carbon fiber prices around. Not sure of their prices these days, as I usually just grab carbon arrow shafts dirt cheap at Sprawlmart when they are on clearance after hunting season.

There are also some cheap sources of carbon fiber bike end bars to use as grips these days if you snoop around.
