Cataloging/Recording finds?

RGS2

New member
I'm very new to this hobby. Last weekend was my first time out with my new MXT! Found a few coins but mainly just started learning. Which prompts my question.....How does one go about recording / cataloging their finds? What information do you record, what type of recording system (Excel spread sheet, some sort of software, legal pad, etc)? Seems to me that now is the best time to start keeping track of what, when, where, how much so I can not only learn from my experiences but have a diary of sorts as well.

What works for you guys? I appreciate your input!

PM me your email address and I will send you my excel sheet

I no longer record clad finds, just the dollar amount of clad after cleaning and taking them to the bank. I do record all silver and jewelry finds as well as any curio or interesting items. When I sell jewelry and silver coins, I do record the dollar amount I received for them. For a newbie just starting out, and many old timers, part of the fun of the hobby is keeping records of finds in some fashion. I've got almost 36 year's of finds recorded in notebooks stashed around. Welcome to this great hobby and good luck. HH jim tn

Welcome RGS2. There is a program called Treasure Tracker. It keeps score of the total number of coins you find and how many of each different coin. You just plug in the numbers push enter and it adds them up. When you really start to dig a lot of coins it can get over whelming to log each coin and very easy to get behind on entering them. Z
