Caveat emptor (Buyer Beware)

I recently bought a Minelab XS on the classified forum a few months ago. When I opened the box and putt it together I thought how amazing it looked for being a 2000 model.I tried it outside and after a few minutes it turned off by itself.I tried it several more times and the same thing happened.I called the guy I bought it from and he said it was a battery issue.I took a gun cleaning rod and taped a q-tip to it and sprayed some electrical contact cleaner on it and swabbed the contact springs in the detector. Then I did the same to the contacts on the battery pack.I turned it on and it seemed to work alright, after about 5 hunts it now turns on and stays on the main screen and the only button that works is the on/off button.I sent it to the Minelab service dept. and they have been having it 3 weeks ago yesterday.I already spent $435.00 on the detector and $27.00 to ship it off,not counting what it will cost to have it repaired if it is repairable. So what I'm saying is when buying a second hand unit beware, because looks can be decieving....

I think you should let ALL of us know who sold you this piece of equipment because it seems to me that the person who sold you this PROBABLY knew that it had problems prior to the sale. ? ? I'm sure that everyone would like to know this info so that WE can be MADE AWARE.... especially if that person didn't want to make it RIGHT after you made it known to him that the MDter had problems ! That really @#$%^! me off.

i heard awhile back that minelab was no longer repairing the s or xs because parts were no longer available, i would not buy either one of those detectors knowing that
