Cellar hole gives up a Reale

RonNH

New member
I hit a cellar hole after work that was on my list. I usually like to spend 3-4 hours on a site but this one was just off the road on on the way home. I had my XS in Iron Mask, opened up to -16 and the screeching around the hole reminded me of puppies yelping. Obviously there was a lot of metal around the hole. I ventured further out and dug some good sounding signals, but they were pieces of iron or copper. On the way back to the truck, the cursor showed a good signal, then bouced to iron and back and fourth. I dug up a tobacco tin, then the cover and the good signal got stronger. I saw a flash of silver and pulled out a 2 reales, very worn but showing enough of the crest that I knew what it was. No date of course and it's so worn that I didn't take a pic. I'm getting a little better with the XS, although still new to it. The tones are making sense, even in spots of high iron. You just have to run it wide open so the threshold can reset itself, turn the volume down a bit so the yelping doesn't drive you nuts and go slow. I plan on getting a smaller coil, maybe the Joey coil for cellar holes. Hope you guys are having a good week. Ron

I use one in trashy area's and let me tell you, it does the job! I tried my Stock 10.5" Coil after using the Joey Coil and I couldn't find any other coins. I pulled 6 or 7 Merc's from a small area and thought there might be deeper one's but there wasn't. I hunt a specific Fairgounds and the Joey Coil is my Primary Weapon unless I know the spot doesn't have much trash and iron in it. If you get the Joey, you won't regret it. Good Luck and HH and if you get time, maybe post a pic even though it is worn. And Congrat's on your find!

Sounds like a nice find and a good way to start the week. I think the small coil would be great and the Joey will be a welcome addition to your arsenal. I don't have one but use the 8" Minelab coil quite a bit on my XS, but I do have 2 of the Coiltec Coils and like them both. WTG and nice find. Even though the coin is well worn sometimes a picture is worth a thousand words.

i use the sunray 8''coil almost exclusively.great weight and depth, far better balanced than the stock coil.especially in brush and tall grass.;)
