Chance for a Compadre

Someone has a Compadre on our local selling site. It looks to be older, but I dont know how old by the picture. The speaker is round, no louvers. They are wanting under a hundred, but I think I can get a better price. Any ideas on age? Is it worth it?

Jump on it...hard!
Probably has the 7" coil, too, which I think is the best set-up they had, but I am curious to see how the new 8" coil model compares.

A good price on these older ones is in the $120-$130 range so anything under this is a steal.
Don't waste time negotiating, you might miss out.

I paid $130 for mine from Skiwhiz, he adjusted the sense to max before he sent it and I love it this way.
It has found me many, many times that initial price since I got it, it is a beast on coins, it is a blast to use and learn new things, it amazes me on some of the things it can find and how easily it can find them, like hard to find chains, that larger coil is not only great for trashy areas but does not frustrate me if I use it for larger wide open areas,
Also, I used this thing in a competition seeded hunt and it was so fast and sensitive that it not only found me more than my entry fee in silver coins but several tokens that won me over $350 worth of prizes.
I will use nothing else in competition hunts and it is worth its weight in gold just for that, but it does so much more your jaw will drop.

The Tesoro Compadre should be banned from competition hunts, because it has an unfair advantage.

I got to get me one with the new 8 inch doughnut coil.:)

Here is a pic of the control housing. Not that it will tell much, but someone might be able to tell me it is at least "X" years old.

Hi BillF,

That Compadre I'm guessing is 10 years old or less, if it has the 7" coil it is the older version, they came out with the 5.75" version in 2005 or so. I have an Inca that is at least 30 years old that operates like new.

You will dig alot more tiny pieces of trash with the Compadre, but you can also find some great gold jewelry cause that baby is soooo sensitive to small gold. I would say ANY Compadre is a great detector to have, but I prefer the 5.75 coil as it works great in trashy areas, and pinpoints so quickly and precisely. BUY IT!

Made a deal with the gentleman for $75. Will meet tomorrow and pick it up, unless someone offers him full price. He said he would consider it sold. We shall see.

nice $75 is a steal had both 7 inch and 5.75 sold the 7" for $100 only cause I am not an octopus and juggling 3 detectors already. Good luck and never sell it or you will regret it!

BillF,

If I remember right the old Compadre are not hardwired so you can switch coils............makes them more valuable & very sought after. I've even heard of people using a clean sweep coil on them. Good catch sir.

I've . Never seen a stock one that wasn't hard wired. That said, I had a 7" coiled one that I wish I had kept, but found another recently that will remain in my stable.

Picked up the Compadre yesterday. Tossed a coin on the ground, picked it up just fine. It has the hardwired coil. The guy I got it from said they only seemed to get trash and nails with it, so I don't think he spent too much time trying to learn the hobby. I need to get out in the yard and check it out better, if it has any issues I'll send it in, but other than minor cosmetics I think it's a winner.

Is it a 7" coil model or a 5 3/4? Either way, nice score!

I'm a fan of the 7 on any detector. I think you'll like that combo.

I have the 7(?) on my Silver Sabre. Always liked it. I just wish the coil wasn't hard wired to this machine. Need to figure out where Tesoro gets their connectors.
