Changing from a 'S' shape shaft to a straight shaft.....

Mega

New member
I recently aquired a brand new Pulse detector which is of a very high quality build wise but the bottom line is i hate 'S' shaped shafts so was on the look out for a straight shaft option but the only suppliers of high quality shafts come from the US so when you take postage into account the price then starts to spiral upwards, anyway was looking on Ebay a few days back and located a brand new shaft over here in the UK so all the postage and taxes have all been payed for.

When the shaft arrives its just a matter of maybe sub 30 minutes to transfer everything over to the new shaft and then i can use it but this new shaft has something on it that i have never seen before its a extension piece that extends beyond the armcup i assume to give extra depth when detecting in the surf or river detecting so in theory i could just leave this extension off,but i have been thinking that as this detector is a PI i originally bought it for hoard hunting so when i put a large coil on it the additional weight would make it nose heavy so would i be right in thinking that if i carry this extra shaft with me i can move the control box up about 8-9inches this would counter balance a larger coil ???

I have enough coil cable to be able to move the control box up and instead of using a harness the top extension rod if you call it that would work just as well ??? the shaft is made by someone called rods_by_plugger and the build quality is one of the very best going. So if anyone has any thoughts about this modification i am not on about just the straight shaft but the extra top extension rod of course i could well be wrong about what the extra bit is for hence why i am asking for some help or ideas.

Thanks from across the pond.
