Chasing after the oldies with the Vaquero

Hiked through miles of hell and waded through poison ivy up to my waist to find one of these but came up short. Decided to call it quits due to exhaustion and heat stroke.

Then on the drive out I saw where two stone walls came together and figured all that stonework must have taken some time; perhaps somebody dropped something. Sure enough. Right next to the road.Go figure. :ranting:

Was just using the stock coil today, but any coil or detector probably would have found the largie. I don't think it was more than 2 inches deep. The Vaquero also sniffed out a dandy button with no shank, another early flat button and a fired musket ball.

Way to go. It's just a matter of finding a good place to search.

Thats exactly why I believe there is a lot of finds left , as unless you have time , & access to the spot those finds will remain hidden, I have a nice soccer field but to get to it you would have to walk 1/2 mile because the gate is closed to the road going in , and then places get grown over and the heat and bugs greatly slow you down , glad to see that large Cent thats old

Nice large cent there square nail, you must live on the east coast. Not many large cents found here in my part of Kansas, some Indian head cents are found around here though.

Looks like you are on the right spot to find more.......congrats.

Nice find. It looks in really good shape. I would love to find one of those but like Hombre said, not many of those found in Kansas.

Thanks all. Was looking for foundations on a Beers map and they weren't where they were supposed to be. Did find one that wasn't on the map, but it was overgrown with more poison ivy than I'd ever seen in one place before. Still managed the buttons and musket ball there. Next time maybe I'll just stay close to the road.
