Cheap GT 16000

Howdy All,

First a little background. I'm new to metal detecting. Bought my first detector (ACE 250) last year and I've been having a ball.

I ran across a MineLab GT 16000 the other day for the whopping sum of $20, yes that's twenty dollars. :clapping: Herein lies the problem. I have NO idea how to even get started with the thing. I put my wedding ring on the ground and made a pass with the unit and got a change in tone so I guess that means it's at least doing something. Any suggestions on how to even get started with this machine for a rank greenhorn? I don't even know if I have posted this in the correct forum. If not, please forgive me and if you would be so kind, steer me in the right direction please.

Thanks,
LW

Hello LW...I am unable to help much on the GT16000, but I was able to find the owner's manual should you be interested. http://www.minelab.com/__files/f/9335/Inst%20Manual%20GT%2016000%20Website.pdf

For 2 $10 bills, that seems like a good deal. Wish I could help more. Chris

Been awhile since ive seen one of those.... if im right its a very early version of the Eurika. I believe it was one of the first gold machines made back in the early 1980s by ML. It was one of the first machines they made with auto ground tracking. Its worth every penny you paid... if nothing elce but as a collectors item. Let me help you out a bit by telling you if you go to Minelab.com you can down load the manual. How about that for info? Thats about what i know. Ive used the 18000 but not the earlier version. The 18000 in its day was a great raw gold machine for what they had.
