Check out what the government is trying to do with our coins. More ways to make cheap crap. What is happening to the precious metals that make our coins?

I really don't have a problem with the mint going to others metals for coinage. At least maybe they will loose a little less money. In fact, dollar coins would be great. As far as recalibrating our detectors, I have little concern. Mine are calibrated for the coins I want to find. NOW, MUD, ZEEKEYS AND A FEW, MIGHT BE DOWNRIGHT FRIGHTENED OVER THE CALIBRATION THING.:rofl: Merry Christmas. HH jim tn

Oh yes, I'm freightened alright! Those dollar coins get heavy! Gonna haveta carry a newspaper boys bag for a finds pouch!
But you are right about the metallurgy... for me, its hard to pick up Canadian clad...entirely different signals, real hard in gravel totlots..or on the sand, cept the pennys which hit like a train! The thing about the article is, The Fed is just making the coinage to reflect our current elected leaders, cheap, shallow, dirty, and rotten to the core. Too bad the people elected last longer in Washington than the coins do in the ground. I hope they hurry up and get those dollar coins in circulation quickly..it will take a few years for them to build up in pickable numbers.

In New Zealand and many other countries, they have one and two dollar coins which I found not to be a problem in your pocket. They are not heavy or very large but easy to detect as a dollar coin from the other coins do to their brass color. One thing they have done is removed the penny and 5 cent coins. All the stores round up or down to compensate for the change. Not having the pennies or nickels in your pocket is a blessings. Many countries like New Zealand do not have a one dollar bill. A coin dollar will last for more than twenty years, however a paper dollar will last about 18 months here in the USA. I have found that in other countries they have an easy and piratical solutions to problems unlike our government. When metal detecting in New Zealand its always fun to find the dollar and two dollar coins which I wish we had here.

I agree jim ..................... We just want the Silver & Gold.... all the others depending on size will find a place on the display screen...

Mud, Zeekey, and the others will figure out how to find all those coins, and have even bigger totals at the end of the year....... My biggests concern is being able to get depth, and seperation from trash for finding what little Silver is still in the ground..

Way things are going..in a few years we will be digging clad dimes, and quarters, and saying WOW..another oldie...

Face reality you old guys! The silver you once found is not being replenished, its a whole new dynamic out there! I bet theres some long and interesting discussions at the detector mfgs about this..what models should be made for the future? How will this sport look in 20 years or so? I figure you old deep silver boys will gradually gravitate to hunting yards and even travelling to far off fields and farms more than you are now..leaving the parks and playgrounds all to us! Which are replenished daily with the reckless clad carrying, joolery wearin' members of our society! Horray!

Too many sites are already hard to detect because of clad coins. Lets just get rid of the low denomination ones. Metal prices are not going down.

Unless everything is an even amount ???????
