Checked out a field today that has been teasing me.

This afternoon I checked out a field I had suspicions about for a long time.
Turns out my feelings might be right. This is about a half hours hunting in an area the size of your Garage.
The Artillery button had a lot of Gild on it when I first dug it. I will clean it tonight. The 3c piece is well worn on one side. I think this may have been a camp site many moons ago.
Somehow, someday, I'm going to find a way to tape my finding items like this in mineralized soil that have little audio and but a scratch of good in the signal. Numbers jump all over screen and only lock in when a sizable plug is pulled. Say 6" deep plug and then the target is only another 2 to 3 inches deeper. When you guys that are coming for the hunt have a few seconds, I'd like to demonstrate what some may be passing up as just chirps and squeaks.
Thanx for looking.

I can't make out the shield. It's not bars. Its letters.

I think that's an excellent idea - here's how you could do it, Bob:

... buy a digital voice recorder, like an Olympus DS-30 (60+ hours of recording time).
... buy a stereo Y splitter (2 - 3.5mm Stereo Female to 1/4" Stereo Male). This will split the audio into two signals; one will go the DS-30 (or whatever) above, the other will go to your headphones.
... you'll probably need a male-male stereo extension, and at least one 3.5mm Stereo Female to 1/4 " Stereo Male (or vise-a-versa, depending on your Explorer)
... maybe some Velcro to mount the recorder.

Once it's setup, the you just turn everything on and go detecting. When you get home, you can save audio file to your computer, etc... etc...

I think this would be a great assist for anyone trying learn what the "deepies" and "iffies" sound like in REAL LIFE !!

I might just do this myself...

Would be easier for me to build you a split level duplex with a pool and tennis cour on a half acre building lot and still have room for you to park your SUV, the wifes Saab and your sons Jeep with the over sized tires.

That would be of great help to me and I know a lot other novices on here as well. I already have an Olympus recorder, hmm I am going to save this one. That I can recall NO ONE does this and this is the greatest way to learn by hearing which is all what we want to perfect.

Perfect.. then you can make one out of wood !!

But seriously, the setup I suggested above should not be any more difficult then the initial setup of the SR X-1 Probe, or perhaps a compound cut on a miter saw (heck, that's harder!).

The "difficult" part would be the transfer of the audio recording to your computer. But that's not too much harder then posting pictures, and you can do that...

Anyway, I'd sure like to hear some real-life, deep, iffy finds that accompany those pics.

Lately, I have been finding allot of keepers that barely give a chirp, but the chirp ever so briefly is a definite coin tone. Instead of concentrating on hearing a solid long signal, I have been listening for any inkling of a good tone chirp no matter how small and they honestly don't have to repeat in 4 directions, some have been one direction only, BUT the tone quality in that one direction sounded like a keeper. This has been extremely effective for me using the new Pro coil. I hope I have stumbled on a way of finding more stuff in pounded places regularly and really hope it isn't just happening because the soil is so dry.

My soil here is wetter than its ever been in past years. So it's just a matter of working that new coil and hunting in all metal.

Congrats on that 3-Cent Piece! I would KILL to find one of them babies! OK, maybe not to that extent but pretty close. You really should go back and search more in that area to see if any other Treasures come to light. Nice Button also. Love them Relics too. Continued Success, Good Luck and HH to you when you return to that site.
