Choosing coils on 705.

Digdoggy

New member
Hi, I've got a new 705 gold setup and a 3 khz Digger coil. My plan is to mostly hunt for old coins and that's why I wanted the digger coil. Ordered the gold pack to have the 5

Hi, just my opinion but I think for old deeper coins, no xterra is complete without the 10in. mid freq. dd coil. I have already made some great finds the few times I have been out this spring. I do like the 5x10 in the plowed fields though for the lighter weight as the bigger dd coil does make it a little front heavy but on grass that's not much of an issue. Good luck.

Thanks, I've been thinking about the 10.5 dd MF coil as the next addition. Was out today for a short hunt next to a ball field trying the 5

I think that you are off to a good start with the coils that you already have.

Adding one of the 10.5" coils would be the next step. I've found that the HF coil is a little fast ID'ing targets and more forgiving as far as it's readings and tones go. The 10.5 MF coil goes a little deeper but it is slower to react which means that you have to sweep slower with it. I many cases as long as you understand how either of those two coils work, you can do well no matter which one you have.

I have the same setup with the addition of the Coiltek 15" 3Khz WOT. I doubt seriously that I will use the big coil very much but I like to have the option if I am in an open area. I primarily use the 5X10 and I am a coinshooter and only hunt for jewelry in specific areas. The 5X10 gives you adequate depth, good separation and good coverage. I do believe that because of the higer frequency it's a little more proned to can slaw and such but I usually don't have problems with it. I am going to eventually buy the 10.5 DD MF but it will have to wait for now. Good luck with your decision.

Hiya, just keep the DD out of extreme wet,
never dip it into water,it is only splash proof,
not watertight ,
the spider concentric ones are watertight.
