There don't seem to be a lot about the cibola on this forum.. I brought one last year brand new and to be honest it don't impress me very much.Mabe its just me.

It could be that you need a machine with ground balance? What part of the country are you in?

My Cibola kicks but,,,I live in Rocky Face Ga and everywhere around here it works great,,,Run the disc at about 11 oclock and learn the machine and I think you will change your mind,,,It is a really good machine and my best finds are from using it,,Hope this helps,,,,Darrell

Place it at Freq. 2 and lower the searchoil in pinpoint and see if the sound goes silent or stays about the same. If it goes silent-you're ground's probably too rough in minerals. Then try all other frequencies and see if this improves when you lower the coil. Have a little threshold running whenever you do this.

I will try your tips and see what happens. I live in north carolina and i also live on a rocky area. You can drag a magnent around the yard and pick up small pebbles.O yea my well is in 300 foot of granite and never broke through it.

Sounds like you are in an area where you want to be able to adjust the ground balance. My Cibola has returned it's purchase price many times over, but there are some areas where it did not do well without a ground balance adjustment. Most of the ground where I live is fairly mild. You may want to try a Vaquero or an Outlaw or something else. I could tell better if I were to hunt your area. Maybe there is a dealer not too far from you who is familiar with your area and what works well; or who maybe knows people detecting near you who could share more information.
