Cleaned Copper Nickle Coins

Steve (SW PA)

New member
I just bought a 1857 Flying Eagle cent on Ebay. Pics on listing were miss leading, somewhat. Listed as a high grade coin, which it is. AU 50 at least, MS 60 at best, but------it has been cleaned! Paid $73.00 -- easily a $200.00 coin with no problems, but cleaned as I said. Otherwise very pleasing. The seller said he will refund my money, but I would like to know what a fair price would be for a cleaned coin. It was done very well, but what do you all think a proper discount would for this coin? Not whizzed, just buffed softly. No marks from cleaning, but yet the result is very obvious. This coin comes from an Antique Dealer, no less, who should have known better! I want to return it for the refund, but the details on the coin are so nice I am having a hard time deciding! I could put it on the window sill for a few months & maybe it will tone up right, or buy Dellar's Darkener to chemically enhance it. Just do not know what to do --- Any advice or input will be greatly appreciated! I want the coin, but not as is. I can post pics this weekend when I have time to work with it. Thanks in advance for all suggestions!

But it all comes down to ARE YOU HAPPY
Let me say that coins go UP in value...not down unless bullion or a zinc

If you can get yourself to accept the fact it will go up in value then its a keeper
If you feel you have been mislead then return it,but I say with the described detail at AU or MS..it should be a keeper at that price
I have sold wheat cents for $100.00 and more :) but they were suppose to be shiney like new Mint coins :)

Good luck Steve but the Dellars and or time will work and so will the return ;)
