Coil and frequency for coin shooting

Been reading in other forums about some machines are better for coin hunting due to their frequency. So with the 705, what frequency and which coil do you think is the better coinshooting setup. I seem to remember Digger touting the LF coil as best for coin hunting unless I'm off base on what he was stating.

Low frequencies like silver and copper better . High frequency coils get the nickels and gold better. I have a 3khz coil on order and I have a 6 inch dd 18.75 khz coil. I have found more nickels with that coil than my stock. One treason being it gets between the trash and the other reason is that it sounds off sweet on a nickel.

While some like the low frequency coil for silver coin hunting, I find that even the med frequency coil can miss our:ausflag: 42 coin real easy if you are not careful. They register at 30 and are around three quarters on an inch in size. If you run with the sensitivity up, then that reduces that from happening a lot, but to me, for these sort of targets, i do like the high frequency DD coils. If I was specifically going after large silver coins, then the low frequency coil would make sense, as you wouldn't pick up all the small rubbish targets.

I dont know what your soil conditions are like, but where I hunt, I have virtually given up using the 3 kHz coil, mainly because it does not respond well to targets in the mid to low conductivity range. I have found the 7.5 kHz and the 18.75 kHz coils to bet the better coils for my area (in Aust.). I find they both respond well to coins, and are aboput even in the gold ring stakes. If you are mainly going after deeper silver coins and jewellery, the lower frequency coil could be the better coil for you. Also, your clad coins may respond better to the low frequency coil than our composite coins. All the best.

The 5x10" DD HF rocks

I have 5 coils for my X-70 and the 3Khz stays on almost all the time. Oh the sweet sound of silver!!

I use the 10.5" HF DD coil about 90% of the time. I just started detecting on 05-14-2010 and two days ago on 10-09-2010 I found my 1000th coin. Actually I'm up to 1006.
