Coil ear snapped off

Be careful when you tighten the nut. Cannot be repaired. Hope Fisher will replace it.:surprised:

The 10 inch elliptical I got came with one rubber washer. With one washer fully pressed into the lower rod end, it would flex the coil ears out prior to tightening. I feared it would soon look like the picture you posted. I took the washer out and with no washer it fits snug with no deflection on the ears and it holds in place with not much tightness on the screw. The stock 11 inch DD does not use a washer, didn't come with one.

5 inch DD uses one washer, 6.5 elliptical uses two washers and both of those seem to fit OK with the number of washers that came with them.

Good luck with a replacement. The ears on the 10 inch and 11 inch coils just look like a weak point in the design with little room for error or flex stresses on them.

being a detector that is light and can be used all day is a trade off. I come from the days when you could really use a detector in the woods and it would take a licking and keep on ticking. But the F75/LTD is a great machine if you take care of it.

Thanks Mike at Fisher for taking care of my problem asap.

Thanks for the info tvr. When I got the 5" DD it came with two washers and I put them in the rod and noticed it was to tight between the ears. I am sure others have had the same problem. When you spend $150.00 for a coil you should get some directions on how to mount it correctly. I remember reading in earlier posts about the changing from two to one to none for washers but since this happened I bet FT has not sent out directions with the coils. Paying Attention to Detail is a Core Value.

so is common sense that broke for one reason overtightening-I've got an F5 and never had a problem also I mount each of my coils on all my detectors on their own lower leg-simple quick change over and no finger pointing for one own mistake.it has a plastic bolt that should have been a clue to the tightness needed to hold coil securely-also find ya a piece of stiff plastic and make ya a coil stay so it doesn't flop which is probably the reason for the overtightening to begin with.I cut mine from the string guard on a old weedeater.the key to getting thru life without a lot of problems is being smarter than what your working on.

It was the first coil ear that I had break since 1969.Lesson learned.
