Coil Height off ground for Quattro?

Can anyone tell me how high off the ground must I keep my Quattro coil? I have been given advise from someone with an Explorer that the coil needs to be dragged on the ground. Any tips from fellow Quattro users...
Thanks- Mike

But if you cant keep it right on the ground just keep it as low as you can. With the slow sweep speed of these machines it isnt too hard to keep the coil where you want it. If it is grass I'm hunting in, I adjust the coil nut almost to where the coil is loose and I just rest the coil on the ground and let it glide over the terrain and it really helps me swing longer periods of time. Makes it feel almost weightless!

Hello Mike. the coil does need to be as low to the ground as possible if you want the correct depth reading for targets. If you detecting in tall grass or over scrubby land, then you need to make an allowance for the ground clearance between the coil and the ground as you loose depth the higher the coil is off the ground. Take that into consideration when gauging how deep your targets are when digging them up. If you're several incehs up off the ground, and you hit a target, the depth gauge will show the true reading from the base of your coil to the target, however high your coil is off the ground., the closer to the ground you go, the closer the target is to the base of the coil.

Hey, Mike, I read the responses on this and your hearing from some of the "best", (me not included), but I do have a bit of experience on the Quatro, as well. I just wanted to throw my "two cents" in here, and say I swing an inch or two above the ground, but like Golden says, it depends on the terain, the grass, etc, but she's right, you'd need to compinsate that inch or two in your depth reading and also the depth reading is for a coin size object, not a railroad spike, or beer can. (just keep that in mind), and also, I'd highly recommend a coil cover. The only time there a pain in the butt, to me, is when they get wet salt water sand between the cover and the coil, but even then, it's not all that bad, most of the time, and your ground balance should take care of most of that, or you just take the cover off and wash things off and try and dry it the best you can or just don't use the cover in salt water. At any rate, you own one of the best detectors in the world in my opinon, only surpassed (in my opinion, pretty much) by the Explorer, and I'd say the Quatro can run pretty good even side by side with the Explorer from what I've read over the years. Marc.

Thank you for the advice... I have to wait until it gets a little warmer out before I start hunting again. It is only 4

Right on!!, MTK. You know by you saying that about the freezing weather ( and I know that Golden is "listening in here"), I truly feel guilty, that I'm not taking more advantage of our surrounding area here in beautiful WARM (for the most part), San Diego, California, where I live. I have NO EXCUSE, when it comes to a reason not to go out and "swing with this thing". Thanks for the response, and hope you get your chance soon. Marc Trainor.
