Coil Question

dm

New member
Just got a new SE exp. With the 8" sunray coil on it for my wife.. I know she is going to hunt some heavy trashy areas. I was just wondering if the 8" will do a good job on these trashy areas or should i get here the 5" sunray coil. Hope i explained this good enough lol thanks for your help guys.:spin:

What I find that works well in that Heavy Trash Denny is the 18" Excellerator Coil. Bet I had you stumped on that one Buddy! Serously, How trashy are we talking here? If there is a ton of Iron and Trash at this site of her's, then I would definetly think about getting the 5" Sunray Coil. It may be very small but it is very effective in these tough spots. I know, since I borrowed one from Corey Staloch once and I was at a Fairgrounds at the time with it and I just had gone over a spot the weekend before with my Stock Coil and my Joey Coil. Anyways, I was finding a few Silver Dimes and Wheats in this spot with the other Coils and I had just switched over from my Stock Coil to the 5" Sunray Coil and I took a half of a sweep (yes, that is correct Denny, Half A Sweep) and I got a signal that was coming in a little choppy but I knew that it was a Coin Signal. So I got down and dug a plug and at the bottom of the plug when I pulled it up was a Silver Washington Quarter. I couldn't believe it myself! I used it for a short time after that and found a few other coins with it along with a older Wheat Penny that was in Solid Iron since the ground was a Solid Null where the Wheat came from. This gave me a one way signal and I dug it anyways just to see what it was and out popped a 1914 Wheat Cent. So I think your wife could use one and it has good depth also. So get on the horn to Rick and tell him to get one ordered. If you don't like it Denny, I will buy it from you next season if you find that it is too small and your wife don't like it. That is a Promise buddy. Good Luck and HH.

Hey James you did blow my mind on your reply (lol) I will have to see Rick on this matter and thanxs for reply . I tried one of Ricks last year for awhile really didnt find much w/it but i just used it for a short time. Were going to try and give you a run for the money next yr. hahaha thanks again.

I think you could since I haven't been down your way and cleaned it out yet. I can't wait until spring so you and your wife can get out and try the new detector out and see what she can do with it. Good Luck and HH.

Greetings, dm. I have the 8" sunray and also the 5" excelerator coil. The 8" works fine for me in medium trash. When I hunt an area that has heavy trash the 5" coil works better because the signal penetrates the ground in a cone shape, which allows the targets that are near trash to be heard. The 8" coil delivers its signal straight down 8" width, which makes more difficult to hear the good targets that are surrounded with trash.:pulltab: So with that said, I believe a 5" coil is more effective (for me), in heavy trash. Happy Hunting Grounds,

Savage.
