Coil Weights????

It seems like all the detector manufacturing companies want to keep the coil weights secret. Guess what I'd like to do with a cattle prod. :)

Is there any place that has all the coil weights listed that will fit the X-Terras? I'm looking to purchase a smaller coil, but I would like to know the weight first.

Here are a couple of coil weights that I took using postal scales. 3.7 ounces makes a huge difference on the end of a long rod.

Minelab 5 x 10 DD coil with cover 11.1 oz.

Minelab 9 inch concentric coil with cover 14.8 oz.

Thanks

That's a good question. I can tell a big difference between my 10.5 DD and my 5X10 DD. I am getting the 6" HF DD soon and hopefully it will also be light. I will say though even with the 10.5, my 705 is still a lightweight detector and easy to swing. Those of us with physical limitations really appreciate the light weight !!

Here are the weights of some of my coils with covers, using my digital postal scales.

HF Elliptical = 14.2 oz.
MF 10.5 DD = 20.4 oz
6-inch HF DD = 13.4 oz
9-inch LF = 17.8 oz
WOT = 24.8 oz

Granted, 3.7 ounces can make a huge difference. But if both of our scales are accurate, there is more than a 3 oz difference between our two ellipticals.

Modifying your shaft to a straight shaft does seem to make a difference in balance and feel.

I double checked, the weights that I posted previously are without covers. I also used a 100 gram test weight to check my scales. It was right on the money.

That 6 HF DD coil looks promising with its light weight. How does its depth and separation compare with the HF Elliptical?

Weights with covers:

9 inch LF 16 0z.
HF Elliptical 13.2 oz

I understood that you had weighed them with the coil covers on.

If you hadn't, that could explain the differences we got.

In the places I hunt, I get as much depth from the 6-inch DD as I do the elliptical. And due to its "heel to toe" length, the separation is better.

My 6" DD and 5x10 coils weigh the same with coil covers on. The 6" coil is actually a very tiny bit heavier. I did not write down the numbers and was a bit surprised. Looking at your numbers I think I will recheck.
