Coils and frequency question

tnkayaker

Member
I have read on this and other forums about a coil needing to be matched to the frequency of the machine. I was just wondering about the coils for the F5, Gold Bug DP and GB pro.
The Gold bugs operate at 19 khz and the F5 at 7.8 khz yet when it comes to the 11" DD fisher coil, they all use the same one. I ordered an 11" DD for my F5 and when it arrived it said "Gold Bug" on it. I checked the coil matrix diagram in the latest issue of fisher news and sure enough, that same coil is used for all three machines.

Just curious.......

That's a good question?
But this means that frequency isn't the only thing involved.

And its not just the 11" coils that these series of detectors share, all the Greek series shares the same coils, with the exception of the earlier models that had the push-in type coil connectors (earlier F5's)
But, none the less I don't really like my Omega coils to be labeled "Gold Bug" I would rather they just be labeled "Greek Series" if they are in fact interchangeable!

I feel that way about the labeling too. I would rather have the 11"DD that says "F5" on it instead of Gold Bug.

That dealer decided to unload some inventory on you. I'd pick another dealer to do business with. This one shows he doesn't care about you or your business.

The coils do interchange but when you order a F5 coil you should expect to get a coil that says F5.

Duly noted Mike. The dealer is a forum sponsor, and has treated me well with with pricing and shipping times on several items. I'm ok with it as long as they are functionally fully interchangeable, but yes the proper logo would have been nice.

By the way, your posts and excellent F5 info is what steered me to the F5 and has helped me find many great items in my first detecting season! Your posts and opinions mean a lot to me and I thank you for your devotion to the hobby.

What's strange is that my T2 5"round dd coil won't work on my F70,but is fine on the T2. both machines are 13khz.Any one else have this happen?

Its my understanding that the T2 and the coils for it are not compatible with any other models! or to say you can't interchange them with any other First Texas product lines.

19.2 is a 2.5x harmonic frequency of 7.69. You only have to manufacture one coil. Put different labels on it

There is a reason why Minelab uses 3, 7.5, and 18.75 coil frequencies on xterra. All 2.5 harmonics. Same coils, different chip in coil to tell the head unit what to use. Wouldn't that have been cool if they would have made it user selective? Machine would have been much more to make up the lucrative mark up on coils.
