Coils

Seems to be quite a bit of talk about coils for the 75 LTD lately (particularly the 10X12 SEF).----I don't know if it (10X12) is going to increase performance over the already EXCELLENT 11" DD stock coil on the 75 or not.------BUT, I can tell you this--it IS going to increase weight out there on the end of that "stick".---11" DD (17 oz)------10X12 SEF (24 oz).------What I would rather see them come out with is a 6X8 SEF (weighs 18 oz) for the 75.----That coil is an EXCELLENT coil ( for it's size).----It works trash very well & still gets you decent depth.------We got more targets in the trash than we do half way to China guys.----------Del

I'm with your thinking Del. Besides the great performance of the F 75/LTD, I like its light weight. Like you, I find many more good targets nestled with some kind of junk then I do at extreme depths. Although the LTD will certainly get down there. Both the small coils now available are great little coils in their own right. HH jim tn

Point well taken Jim.---For the extremely trashy areas, I'm sure those two coils (5" DD & 4X6 concentric) just can't be beat.--------Del

I forgot to mention in my original post---the coil cover for the 10X12 SEF weighs 3 oz (coil without cover is 21 oz).----A tip for anyone wanting to use this coil & hold down the weight--try running it without a coil cover.----I did this with this coil on my Etrac & it definitely DOES make a difference (weight wise).-----If you don't believe this--try useing this coil on an extended hunt with the coil cover on & then take it off and hunt with it a bit.---I'm not a weak person (at least for my age) but for me, on this particular coil, the coil cover stays off. ----And no, you're not gonna wear the bottom of the coil out!---If that's got you concerned--give it a quick spray coat of a good (non-metalized) bed liner spray---not 3 or 4 coats now or you're gonna have the weight right back up there again.----All this is if you plan on keeping the coil---if you think you may sell it later, by all means, keep the (included) coil cover on!----Enough ramblings of an old man! :) ----------Del
