Coin and Jew. mode vs. the All Metal

New member
which one goes deeper? i played around with both but in the all metal mode i saved my own personal settings by cancelling out the -10 through the 0. will this have the same effect as coin and jew. mode? can you sweep faster in the all metal mode? is it possible to have so much thrash that there is no humming when the threshold is set at 13? i went to a new spot that is a honey hole. i was there for 2 hours and found 3 wheat pennies, a 1956 silver dime, 1947 Canadian dime, and the normal p-tabs. the silver and wheaties were only 3 to 5 in. in my test garden i can get a good signal on the clad dime at 7 in. but i can't get a good signal with the quater at 9 in. unless i put it in the all metal mode and even then it comes up a 38 all the way to -10. do i have problem????????????

Hello sddigger, I don't know what the ground is like where you are searching but I find I can swing faster in all metal mode, but I do cancel out -10. The reason I use all metal is that I don't like too much null which as you found out means very small movements to ensure you don't jump over a target.

Thanks John. If I were to cancel out the 0 through -10 in the all metal mode would that be the same as the coin and jew. mode? If that is the same would I still be able to go just as fast if I didn't reject 0 through -10. What is your sen. set at?

The bigger the number range you cancel out the more the detector nulls and the slower you need to go. Only cancelling -10 means the detecor is not giving off false signals as much and saves you from being driven crazy by the almost continual sounds. Iron will still show up as -9 in a lot of cases but the detector runs quieter and you get an idea if a good signal is in the ground compared to having your detector in null a lot of the time. I started off using auto senstivity and still do so mostly. I would recomend you use auto till you get to grips with the quattro unless the ground is very noisy, in that case keep dropping the sensitivity in manual till the quattro is more stable. By all means drop the senstaivity below 10 if you want to search close to a fence or building, you might find untouched ground in those locations as other detectorists may not have covered those spots.
