coin cleaning problem

Hi Everyone. I TH the beaches of lower DE and Ocean City, Md. Have found mucho crusted coins lately. I use a double barrel cleaner with sharp aquarium sand and a couple drops of detergent. Works fine. I ran out of sand, and can't locate any (even in pet shops) All the sand is of the newer variety, soft and spongy. Does anyone know of a good ,long lasting substitute or where I can Purchase the old type aquarium sand? I clean a lot of coins, so buying supplies through a TH dealer would be too costly.
Thanks in advance, and good hunting. Bill Heffernan

Mason's sand has sharper grains than beach sand. Buy it by the bag.
Play sand is not uniform in that play sand here may not be the same as play sand where you are.

You could also use brocken car glass.Put it in a safe cloth and hammer it since it will be as per your wish.
