It's a Roman coin from Claudius' reign. That's Claudius on the front. The SC on the back means that the coin was struck with the approval of the Roman Senate. Claudius ruled Rome from AD 41 to AD 54. That's an old coin! Very cool find!
Mark

the obverse reads:Claudius Caesar Aug (Augustus) F Britannicus. the reverse: a depiction of the God Mars, Senate Consultum. this means that the senate authorized the making of the coin. goggle Claudius Augustus and learn more. if i am not mistaken, he was Octavian's(Augustus) son and heir. this would make him the third caesar and extremely old (first century) and rare coin. great find. there are organizations that would like to hear about reports of old world coins found in america. you should contact them and learn just how many roman coins were found in the new world. it is an extremely interesting read.

claudius reined from 41-54 AD. i just googled him and you should to. have fun.

next question does that mean this coin was struck only during his reign or did they keep on making more copies of this type and thanks again for all the info i am still in awe

they would have stopped minting the coin after his death, so the latest it could have been minted was 54 AD. i hope you did your research. this was an interesting character.
