Coin Learning function . (uk site) my thoughts on this feat:thumb up:ure.

I decided to try the coin learn function today, I was on a footpath and decided to hunt for a specific nickel coin (just for fun as a change) The learn function is something i have never bothered with hardly before with explorer detectors including the explorer 2. This is very easy to do you simply select the discrim option , you are then presented with 2 options "learn or edit". learn should be selected you then see a "tick" press this tick (all scanned objects will be learned / accepted). The tick means you want the scanned coin to be accepted there is an option to make all the screen go black (every thing rejected)use this option. With a black screen you are then ready to scan over the coins that you wish to teach the detector to only accept . I used the smallest cursor window size for a nice tight pattern. I placed the 20p coin on the footpath and scanned the search coil over it from left to right and then from top to bottom sweeping from all directions to get a nice smooth readings from all sweep angles to teach the SE this 20p coin. The tick was then pressed again to stop the learn function. The detect pad was pressed and i now searched with a completely black screen apart from a very thin 20p nickel window close to the bottom area of the screen . Within 4 minutes of searching i got- a nice smooth low tone signal that gave a cross hair in the small 20p "window". It sounded just like that 20p i had taught it!
The target was dug and found to be a dirty 20p - it looked like it had been lost many years. A bit later i got another similar signal and this too turned up a 20p. No other trash targets registered. I will be testing this function more and more now to see how it performs and add other modern and old coins and create a custom "pixelator screen". You can eliminate most trash this way but still cherry pick out coins of your choice. Always take the coins that you want to teach the explorer to the site you wish to search for them and learn the coins "on site" this works better than learning the coins say in your garden and then going else where to hunt for them. Teach the explorer SE the coins on the field you wish to find them on because if you don't you may not get accurate results and some may be nulled out due to variations in the ground mineral. The smaller cursor learn windows will allow nothing but your learned target in most cases. I think on trashy sites with low to moderate trash that the learn function works very well. by allowing only your selected coin to bee accepted, this is similar to how slot machine coin acceptance mechanisms work by the way!. The coin mech measures size & conductive and ferrous components just like the explorer.
