Coin People

I did email my neffew in Japan and asked him to tell you what it reads on the coin..hope it works out..:spin:
 
That coin is, in fact, Japanese. It's a regular one-yen coin, just
like the penny. The writing reads
"Showa Yon-ju-hachi Nen" which means Showa Year 48. That translates
into 1973 in the Western calendar.
