Used it as well. I found a Wheatie the other day, and stuck it into a potato....worked pretty good as well.

Jim, this works fairly well on corroded coins. I put a little peroxide in a plastic cup and heat it in the microwave for a minute, then take it out and drop the coin in. It will bubble hard for several minutes, with the bubbles lifting off the crud. It also works well with buttons. The only caution is not doing it too many times in a row, as the peroxide can eventually burn (darken) what you are cleaning.

The thing about the potato is to wait until you have about 6-8 coins (depending on the size of the tater) so you don't waste it on a single coin. As mentioned push a knife blade into it to make a slot to help the coin slide in and be sure to push it in far enough so you can't see the edge of the coin....then stick a toothpick in it (or mark the location some other way) so you don't hit the coin with a knife while retrieving the coin. I've cleaned a single penny for a few hours, sliced the potato 1/2" on either side of the coin, and fried the rest....so yes, you can still eat it. I wouldn't eat one that had cleaned several coins though.

ETA: I have only done this on pennies.

doin this with a hot baked tater has any pros or cons ?
I say baked because i would imagine that a boiled tater would lose all it's starch.
Also, i'm assumin that it's the starch that does the cleanin on the coin ?
