Coinstrike Audio Clarity ?

A

New Coinstrike user question:
What level do most of run the volume on the Coinstrike? I am using quality headphones (Killer Bee and Uniprobe(Grey Ghost) phones), however the tones in discrimination mode on my C$ are nowhere near as clear and crisp as those on my CZ. In all-metal mode it sounds very ragged, almost like a busted speaker sound.
I even turned the volume down to "4" on the detector and adjusted the phones up and down yet a similar poor audio response is observed with both phones.
Have any of you observed the same response, is this normal?
Thanks in advance for your answers,
Keith

I have a similar occurrence when the batteries are starting to run down. This is a normal occurrence. I also have found the very best batteries to use are alkaline non-rechargeable
Rechargeable batteries, both NIMH and NICAD cause the audio system in my Coin Strike to exhibit a "warble". According to Fisher, this is due to the fact that both kinds of rechargeable batteries don't actually put out a baseline voltage of 9 volts, thereby starving the audio circuits for power. The same reason applies to when the alkaline batteries start to run down.

I run my C$ vol at 10... and adjust vol using my Killer B's, I actually like the target audio on the C$ ..every unit has a different language just gotta get used to it......but what you describe seems normal for a C$.

if your volumn on the unit sounds rough or ragged without the phones, then it could be a speaker problem, but if it sounds bad with the phones, it could be in the female speaker outlet.
If it coesn't get better and it annoy's you, you may want to send it in to Fisher.
HH,
Mike

sound exactly as you describe. To me after using my CZ, the C$ and Excel dont have the nice sharp, clear tones. They sound crappy to me. I called and talked to Fisher about seeing if they could change the sound board out, but the C$ uses a different board so it would be highly unlikely. I really wanted to use a C$ but i couldnt handle the sound. Brian

I have both a CZ and C$. In all metal the CZ has a clearer sound to me but the C$ can tell me more on marginal targets. In Disc to me the tones are about the same with the CZ being maybe a little clearer but really not worth mentioning. If you are near power wires you may be getting some interference there. As far as batt go I use Tysonic Ni-MH rechargable exclusively and only bring alkaline as back-up. Tysonic hold a higher charge for a long time but then drop off quickly. I did not like the perfromance of other chargable batts but find Tysonic works very well. Take care.

Thank you to those who have responded.
I don't think this is a battery issue as I am using akaline batteries and it reads 8 volts upon power up.
Definitely a significant difference in clarity between my CZ and the CS. All metal mode is very ratty sounding.
I'm going to test in another location before calling the dealer I bought it from and/or Fisher.
Thanks again,
Keith

The all metal mode has a definate crackle sound when it goes to 1 tone non-disc. That's just the way it is, & I'm sure Fisher got alot sent back for this. It may not sound right at first, but relic hunters have learned to get usted to it because of the depth that's possible in that mode. As a beginner, I would be more concerned with learning disc mode right now. Please don't take this wrong, but you've already made a mistake in comparing your C$ to a CZ. Remember to learn a C$ you must forget everything you know about your old unit. This is VERY different technology, from Fisher's new engineers. Some say it's sorta strange almost Yes, it's 4 tones like a CZ, but that's where it ends.....they do sound different. I reccomend Killer B's with the Coinstrike. That's all I use. I tried the Grey Ghosts & they are about half as loud...not good for a C$. I run my volume on the unit up to 10, & as MIke said if that's too loud turn 'em down a tad with the Killer B's volume dial....HH, Bill
