Coinstrike factory info?

Just talked with fisher factory and they said to leave averaging ON.. when in trashy areas. It seems that is just the opposite of what I thought. Any input would be very helpful.. Also trying to figure out the threshold.. -25. when should you go more towards the poitive numbers and when more toward higher negative numbers...

Beats the heck out of me why they told you that about leaving averaging on.
From the manual:
"When on, the numeric ID will be based on cumulative average from sweep to sweep." " When off, the ID will be based on immediate sweep results."
Cumulative average?? Average of what??..all the trash around the target plus the good target??? Does Fisher think we all detect in ideal trash free conditions where the only stuff to be found is nice silver coins??? Maybe it somehow senses only the good stuff in trash and averages the best reading. Yeah, Right.
Me thinks its high time Fisher has the Engineer put out a Tech sheeet on the Coinstrike. I love the machine... BUT, all this no comment and silence from Fisher has just about reached the point of idiocy.
The manual just plain sucks when it comes to the finer points of using the C$. Fisher get a clue, maybe you would sell more.
Pardon my rant but we deserve better!

maybe it would help out by getting the new owners to hold onto the machine longer in order to learn it if they were more explanatory in their manual.

But as far as threshold goes, -25 & sensativity @5 is recommended for newbies because it seems like one of the most stable settings. The lower you go in minus (-) the more stable it is, example -40 is more stable then say -25. The higher toward Plus (+) you go, the more unstable it can or will become. Threshold is really what you can stand as far as instability.
But, the main thing to remember is from what I've been told and from what I have determined with what testing I have done, is the lower you the negative or minus you go the less depth you get. Example: -5 has more depth at sensativity 5 then -25 has. Its not much from what i can tell, but there is a difference.
I've got close to 40 hours on mine by now and I will run threshold -10 sensativity @ 8 until it becomes to unstable then I start dropping the settings back until it becomes more stable. I can't stand a bunch of pops, clicks, chirps all the time, it drives me nuts. Thats one of the reasons I wanted to wrap the C$ around a tree the first 15 hours I used it.
Good luck on the C$, if you give it enough time, you will really like,
HH,
Mike

Mike,
Right on! It would be nice if someone published an owners guide similar to Andy Sabischs work on the ML's.

Used averaging mebbe 3 - 4 times, I don't like it, usually run 5-25, some 4-40, also 2-10, then i switch around and do other things, lota playin around, fun detector, March be 2 yr birthday party for C$ = Y'all comin, cake / ice cream, /baloons

but I run mine with averaging off. The numbers
may jump around a little more with it off but get
your coil centered over the target and see what
happens. What I look for is repeatability. If
it's there I dig any positive number. Looking for
gold jewelry in sports fields I wouldn't do
otherwise. Mike gave you good advice on the threshold.
You can make the C$ very quiet or very
chatty by varying the threshold and sensitivity.
Go back and look at some of the past posts on this
forum. A lot of good stuff from guys that know
what they are talking about in the real world.
Much better usable information than the manual.
