Coinstrike interest

Hi guys.
New to the Coinstrike forum. Been detecting for about a year now, with Bounty Hunter, then Tesoro.
I have learned enough now that I am thinking of getting a Coinstrike. (the features start to make sense <img src="/metal/html/glasses.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":geek:"> ) Of course I can't buy new and will have to get a used model. <img src="/metal/html/frown.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":(">
Are there any special issues that I need to be concerned with when buying a used CoinStrike?
Also noticed that there is no small coil offered for it. I get the idea from my reads, that it doesn't need a 'trash' coil. Is that true?
Thanks,
Mike Hillis

Actually, I have seen some amazing deals on used Coinstrike's lately in the various forum classifieds. Some even below $500! <img src="/metal/html/shocked.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":shock"> Alotta folks never take the time to learn this "different animal". Plus, winter can be a good time to buy as many folks are frozen up & may need the money. You wouldn't get the lifetime warranty, but as long as it was taken care of, you should be fine as it's well built. My C$ has been totally abused for the last few years, and is still going strong....
Your right, at this time there is no smaller coil for it because it's so "fast" & good in trash with the stock coil. However, I have always wondered how deadly it could be if Sun Ray makes a 5" coil for it? They are working on ID-Excel items....so I'll keep hoping <img src="/metal/html/smile.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":)"> HH, Bill

Did I read your post correctly that sunray is working on id excel coils? Or is fisher? or both? Keep us excel users posted when you get more details when they will be available!

Thanks Bill,
The idea of not having to carry extra coils is intriqueing to me. Right now, with my Tesoro Cortes, I carry around 2 or 3 coils all the time, one of which is always the little 4" for when I am scanning along and hit a area of dense signals. That requires me to stop, change out the lower pole and coil assy to keep going, or skip that spot and come back later.
I am also interested in the Threshold control. I know from my Cortes that the threshold in all metal mode acts like the sensitivity setting in Disc mode. The Coinstrike seems to give two different signal filters for the Disc mode gain. Pretty cool stuff <img src="/metal/html/lol.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":lol">

it's a tough machine!!! I hunted with Bill in Colchester England, he broke a set of Grey Ghost headphones, a shovel at the metal part, not the handle and the bolt that joins the coil to the stem. He found the 3500 year old axe head after the broken bolt incident and his coil was slopping on the ground! I think the C$ is probably one of the best and toughest machines around, will probably be my next detector but I bought a White's XLT and a Fisher CZ7A this year and wifey just wouldn't understand!!! I'm going for a 4X4 unit this year to get me into some deeo woods and that will be a hard task to get by the wife! HH, Mike

Mike,
You might want to consider a BRAND NEW coinstrike with a warranty card for lifetime coverage for repairs! I have heard that there are amazing deals out there... I could put you into contact with somebody who has one ready to go right now and ready to bargain!! Hint Hint - GH is his alias!!
Good Luck,
GH

Hi Gatehider,
You got my attention.
Send me an email. Seems I can't send you one.

Rumors say both Fisher & Sun Ray....but it says right on the Sun Ray forum that an onboard probe for the Excel is being field tested. So I hope coils would be next....

So I really need rugged equipment. Colchester Chris should re-name me "Boston Breaker" <img src="/metal/html/biggrin.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":D">

Hey Mike!!!!
Good to see you here.
Since I have this unquenchable thirst to try different machines, I too have looked at the C$ and the CZ3D. I'm leaning towards the CZ3D. Have you checked out the CZ3D? If so, what do you like about the C$?

I had a 3D and just didn't like it. I couldn't get the depth I thought I should, I dug more junk then I ever did with any other machine. My friend has a 3D, we got them about the same time, he likes his but he's not finding much, deep, old stuff and he's been at it about a year, I traded mine for a C$ and love it. I've had it about 6 months but have only put about 20-30 hours on it and that's been in the past couple weeks. Coin count is going way up. This weekend I got my first silver with it, 1907 Barber dime around 7", 1894 Indian/6-7", a token, probably early 1900's, and several(7) early teen and mid-20 wheats. In the past couple weeks I passed my buddy in wheats and Indian head pennies, his years worth and my couple weeks. My opinion, I like it, but to each their own.
Good Luck

Hi Wayne,
I thought you might be over here. I know how much you love your ID Excel. <img src="/metal/html/grin.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":grin">
I looked at the CZ3D and the CZ70 prior to the Coinstrike. I took the CZ3D off my list because I wouldn't be able to use it's best feature in sites with modern trash. The CZ70 is still on my list. I like the tone id setup and the conductivity buckets. The CZ70 played a large role in my purchase of the Cortes. I couldn't afford the CZ70, but I made sure I found a machine that could tell me the difference between round and square tabs.
My first machine was a Tracker IV. Its a great teacher. I could hunt using an ajustable tone id, or in a single tone disc mode. The CoinStike kinda gives me the same option in a manner of speaking. In Disc mode I have tone id along with the visual id. In All metal mode I get a single tone along with visual id. So I can tone or not tone depending on my choice and still have target id via the TID numbers. I could get the same thing with Excel, but I am learning that the ground here in New Mexico needs an auto ground tracking to keep up with it.
Another thing I like about the coinStrike was the dual signal level processing. I have just started getting familar with this aspect when I started hunting in the no-motion all metal mode of the Cortes and learned that the threshold in the all metal mode acts like the sensitivity settings in Disc mode and that I could turn it down below audible and knock out ground noise, or turn it up and limit depth, or set it just audible and listen for the overshoot nulls of deep targets. The ability of the Coinstrike to use both Threshold and Sensitivity settings in either Disc or All metal has grabbed my attention and I can't seem to shake it.
Also I wouldn't buy a visual ID number machine that didn't have an averaging function. Not after using the Sum mode on the Cortes. Iron is out. Crown bottle caps are out. Rusty nails are out. With the Cortes I only dig iron or steel when I want to, not because it mis-ided as a good target. I expect the averaging function of the Coinstrike to be able to provide the same level of iron/steel id just because it has the averaging function for the target id number.
And I think, lastly, not least, from what I can tell, I could run a 10" coil in high trash and still get good targets like I was running a 4" coil.
There is probally more, but thats enough. <img src="/metal/html/lol.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":lol">
