Coinstrike Serial Number?

Coin$triking Michigan said:
Isn't there a batch of Coinstrikes that were "better" than others, and if so, what serial number should I be looking for? Thanks

Not that I've heard of?
I have heard of some other Fisher models that later dated or earlier dated models were more sought after, but not the Coinstrike???

I have read that there may have been a bad batch of C$ coils, which would have made the units act erratic, but have not heard of better units based on serial numbers.

This sounds like something similar to the infamous 1021 serial numbers on the CZ3D's, but I don't think there were batches of Coinstrikes that were better than others, based on serial numbers.

I believe all Coinstrikes were made at the Los Banos plant, so you don't have the issue like the 3D, where some were made there prior to the First Texas take over, hence some 3D's being 'better' than others based on where they were made.

FYI, the C$ has no trimmer pots inside the control box. I peeked inside mine, nothing to adjust. In case you were wondering. Jabbo

Today I compared my ID Edge to the C$ in the cut grass behind a high school, both with 8" coils in mild soil using Disc mode. It seems neither one goes deeper than the other on deeper undug targets. But the C$ stayed in the positive number range on small deep brass, aluminum, and copper targets, while the Edge bounced positive to negative numbers on many of those deep non-ferrous targets. Targets that were less than 6" deep read nearly the same on both detectors, only some deeper or smaller targets gave negative/positive bounces when using the Edge. Did find one IH penny today, 1881, about 5" deep while using the C$. Yesterday at this same school I found a large penny and an IH cent. Land was a farm before the school was built.

I still have the one Los banos provided to do the field test. All beat up & It still runs stong & I have all the original coils too. Never a coil problem. Not sure what all this bad coil talk is all about. Every unit has a bad coil once in awhile.....it's not unique to the Coinstrike. My T2 needed a new coil right out of the box & I'm now on my third one. Mr. Bill sold like 100 coinstrikes and very few if any I can recall had coil problems......
