Colonial Farm Field Finds

A farmer friend of mine lost part of a plow two seasons ago and asked if I could search his fields with my metal detector to try to locate it. Since I had found several early large cents and half cents there in the past, I readily agreed. Took about 2 hours this morning but I was able to find the lost part which would have cost him about $150.00 to replace. After locating the part, I moved to the field where I had good luck finding coins in the past. Wish I could claim the Connecticut copper and seated liberty dime in the photo but the owners son actually eye-balled those on the surface last year. All I could find with my $1000.00 detector was the 1906 Barber dime and 1920 mercury dime. But that was payment enough for my time spent searching for the lost plow disc. Was glad to head home with a couple silvers.

You'll hit something real good soon Ed for doing something good for the farmer guy. Works out that way. Nice silver.

thats all i do is field hunt with the wot youll be suprised what civil war stuff youll find already found 3 cs buckles its where it is good luck and great finds

I noticed that you knock it out of the park every week in fields - what is your criteria for selecting a typical field to detect?

The owners son told me how he found coins laying on the surface after plowing. In the acre or so surrounding where a 1700's home once stood, I've probably found 50 coins dating from 1787 to 1920.
Most of the fields farther away from the home site only gave up some iron objects and flat buttons. There might be some coins out there somewhere but I would say theres well over 100 acres to cover.
