Compadres Jammed Up?

I took my daughter with me for a vacation in Mackinaw City, Michigan. I have always wanted to do some detecting on their beaches, The first day we went to the town of Cheboygan and I hit some beaches there and didn't find much. The next day we hit the beach of our hotel in Mackinaw and my Compadre goes haywire, it starts giving me popping and cracking sounds. I pick it up and hold it above my head and it's the same thing. So I go back to the hotel room and try it out and it's still wacky, so I grab my daughters Campadre and it does the same thing. So later we go downtown to do some shopping and I pull it out of the back of the car and turn it on and it's still haywire. Later we leave and head to my uncles who lives about the mid part of Michigan, I pull the Compadres out and check them and no problem. What on earth could have jammed them up so bad??

Major EMI in the vicinity.

Wireless Internet sends mine crazy , overhead power lines too

had the same thing happen at In laws. In Rural Georgia. get near the road forget it. there is a fiber optic cable buried.. now that caused quite a forum arguement once. properly installed and shielded it should not matter. there is an electric fence on the property back half thats a very long range potent one. and a visbile cell phone tower- big sucker! never figured it out. certain units it dont affect too much, certain ones it does. i dont even bother there anymore.

I live up here in northern Michigan and have hunted all over Cheboygan with many different detectors and have never had any emi problems. Strange.

Have there been reports of UFO sightings in Mackinaw recently ? Darn History channel has been making me loony lately .:look:

In Cheboygan I had no trouble, when I got to Mackinaw was the trouble! I don't know if it was something to do with all the ferry's that go to the island every half hour or not. I know I won't take it with me back there again!

ahhaaahhaaaa, good one dirt doc...

I would take my detector back there. Try other detectors. Colonial Fort Michilimackinac was built in 1715 and abandoned 1783 which is in Mackinaw City. Metal detecting is banded in the state park and in the water by the bridge. I found a revolutionary war 10th regiment foot soldier button about 2 miles from downtown. The area I was at was known to have had a trader who traded with the indians, French and English. The fort originally was occupied by the French and later the English. The Jesuit Priests gave away many rings to the indians which can be found in the area.
