check the video out and see which one you think did better..

I see what you mean. They separate about the same on the nail board video, but the round definitely gave a "bigger" hit then the elliptical. You can probably feel it a bit better then we can see too.

The depth increase of the round in the ground was apparent.

The round would be the more practical one being deeper, just depends on how small of stuff you want to find, an elliptical might make you feel naked sometimes. If you bury some '22 short shells around an in your nails you might get a feel for the elliptical in it's ideal environment. Then again I find '22 shorts with an 11" LF lol, so maybe bury that gold chain you had at 4"-5" next to some iron, that should set up the ideal situation for that coil.

IMO the only reason to go for the elliptical is for chains. (And nuggets if you're a prospector)
That being said the round is a "HF" so maybe it already sees chains better then the 9" LF in which case that would be good enough.

I have to agree with you CD.
That Nine looks like it hit all of you tests better.
When ever I do (and maybe soon) buy a HF coil , I'm leaning towards the 9".
Thanks for another great Video.

lets see what squrriel 1 says about the elliptical because hes been testing it a lot and see if he thinks I need to try a different test senario.

Thanks for the video CD. I've had the 9" round HF for a few days and it's been great, no complaints. I only run in 28kHz on my old homesites and it's getting interesting.

Thank you for the great video comparison. I will soon be getting an HF coil and your video will help me choose.

Good video Calabash.

My thoughts based solely on my use of both coils.

Rehunting sites using round HF coil where LF 9" and or 11" coils were used,,,user of roundup coil,,smart money is to use 28khz as primary detecting freq.
Then use 54khz as a secondary.

Rehunting sites using elliptical HF coil where LF 9 and 11" coils have been,,,can use 14khz or 28khz , but if ground is medium mineralized or higher,,smart money is on 28khz.

Rehunting sites where round HF coil has been, if you use elliptical smart money is on. 28.8 kHz.

Now, both coils, talking of the HF here. Sometimes one can see things the other can't and vice versa.

The shape of elliptical gives it advantage and disadvantage.

Here is a test Calabaah, you should do.

Take a nail, and bury say a coin at7" deep like a dime.
Get yourself a wooden yardstick.
Lay nail over to the side of buried coin.
Use a golf tee for reference of coin location to take measurements.

Use both the elliptical and round HF coil,,to detect coin,,,see how close you can move nail when you use Reactivty 2.5 and just change freqs only.

This test will show some advantage for elliptical coil.
Sweep in direction of coin and nail.
Look for a good two way signal on coin.

This test will show,,,in a sweep of the coil odds are better here for elliptical to hear coin tonally,,with a much closer distance (nail to vertical plane of coin when looking down upon.
Remember though, a person can strike this same coin maybe so if approach angle to coin and nail setup is altered using round HF coil.

But I like to hunt in some sites where the odds are in my favor moreso,,,especially in a site I just get one shot to hunt.

Soil minerals play into proper use of these coils.
Folks watching videos of HF coils, remember this.
What you see in the videos may not be what you in your soil.

good points will check it out. I do favor the round coil maybe because of the way it hits targets or tones on them and also the shape feels odd swinging the elliptical after the round coil.

Another question-----When would you need 74 khz on the eliptical?

As far as coin and relic hunting,,using 74khz band would be a person acting in a desperado fashion to eek out what other freqs didn't.
I have used and made finds. Not overly deep,,in a site loaded with iron, bigger and smaller.

From what I've read the Elliptical running 74kHz was meant for small gold. I think both HF coils at 28kHz are showing some advantages over LF coils on some sites. In my soil on old home sites my 9" round HF at 54kHz isn't productive at all but 28kHz rocks.
