COMPARISON of E-Trac to the Safari

Is there anyone here, who has done any comparisons of the MINELAB E-Trac to the Safari? I'm interested in knowing how ACCURATE the ID Disaplay are compared to one another? How the Safari compares to the E-Trac in Swinging Comfort, some have said that the E-Trac is far superior in Swinging Comfort than the Explorer SE, and I'm wondering about the SAFARI? Also SIMPLICITY of OPERATION, although I would expect the E-trac to be more complicated due to cost factor and alot more capabilities. MANY THANKS for any responses, hh, Les Robinson

Les,

This question has been asked before and it is really asking a question like how does the E-Trac compare to XXXXXX (fill in any detector here).

==========================

I'm interested in knowing how ACCURATE the ID Display are compared to one another?

The E-Trac has Smart-Find which has 2-D coordinates and allows for much more refinement in terms of target ID values. The Safari is a linear scale going from -10 to +40. Rather than cover SmartFind all over, suffice it to say that even with the flattening of the S curve and trying to force good targets onto the "FE=12" line, the E-Trac does have better target ID due to the 2-D scale.

==========================

How the Safari compares to the E-Trac in Swinging Comfort, some have said that the E-Trac is far superior in Swinging Comfort than the Explorer SE, and I'm wondering about the SAFARI?

The E-Trac has the redesigned hand grip which seems simple but makes a huge difference in the long term comfort of the detector. The Quattro, Safari and Explorers ALL share the same upper control assembly design. The E-Trac has been redesigned.

==========================

Also SIMPLICITY of OPERATION, although I would expect the E-trac to be more complicated due to cost factor and alot more capabilities.

Clearly the Safari is much easier to setup since other than DISCRIMINATION, there are only 6 adjustments on the menu - Sensitivity, Threshold, Noise Cancel, Volume, Trash Density and Contrast. Since Noise Cancel is controlled on the face plate and others such as Volume and Contrast are set-once-and-forget, you are down to Sensitivity & Trash Density that might be adjusted based on site conditions. The E-Trac has far more adjustability but as with the Safari or really any detector, once you have it dialed in to the type of hunting you do, you will likely make very few changes to the settings in your area.

==========================

If you are looking for FBS-performance with a simple interface for $500 less than the E-Trac, the Safari will fit your needs. I have one and have let several people use it to see if they like detecting . . . in each case they have done very well and found targets at above average depths.

Hope this answers your questions

Hi Andy, The info you just gave is the reason I ordered my Safari last week. When I want to hunt I don't want to fiddle around with a lot of settings. I beleave it will hold a candle with any other model out there! I did order the 8 inch coil and lower rod for it.Thanks for the info.

T.D.,

You have a good perspective . . . . . for some, being able to turn the detector on and hunt with peformance that beats most other detectors out there is all they want . . . and in many cases, all I am interested in doing. Sometimes the tweking bug bites but at other times, grabbing a "turn on and go" detector is preferable even if it means a tad less depth or other capabilities.

By the way, I had my Safari out for a few hours this AM and came home with several keepers from a "worked out" site.

Andy, MANY THANKS for taking the time to answer my questions!! I have never owned an EXPLORER, so I'm not real familiar with it, other than it has a
Large LEARNING Curve and has some of the BEST TECHNOLOGY on the market!! Especially with the SMARTFIND Option, which is a Great ASSET in the ACCURACY of Target ID!! After I had posted my question, I read some of the additional Quattro Pages, and saw a post that the QUATTRO does NOT maintain a Constant HIGH TONE ID for Coins at a
depth MORE than 8 inches!! Whereas the EXPLORERS do maintain a CONSTANT HIGH TONE ID for Coins at ANY Depth!! Has that been CORRECTED
on the SAFARI, so that it maintains a CONSTANT HIGH TONE ID on Coins at GREATER than 8 in. Depths, and Not a HIGH/LOW TONE Bounce like the QUATTRO? At present, I have been using a Sov-GT, FISHER CZ-70PRO, and a WHITES M-6, which I enjoy!! But, I'd like to try a detector that BETTER IDENTIFIES SILVER Coins from CLAD Coins, much like the EXPLORERS do!! Can the new SAFARI identify Silver Dimes from Clad Dimes, and the same for Silver Quarters from Clad Quarters? Again, MANY THANKS for taking the time, hh, Les Robinson
