Compass Xp Pro Plus?

I just bought one a couple of weeks ago. I haven't had it out yet .But I have done some air tests and was surprised how hot it is on low conductors. In disc mode at 3, sens.at max I can hit a v nickel with patina at 10'' with a solid repeatable beep, 11'' a Little bit iffy. Mine is the regular XP-Pro later run with the depth mode like the Pro Plus. There is a Compass forum just google it and click on. You can do a search or ask some of the members as they have more experience than me with Compass detectors. I am going to try and get it out this weekend to a spot I have that is full of small iron which Compass machines are suppose to be good at.

Say Jason, I have a Compass Gold Scanner Pro that I bought in 1989 and I haven't wanted to part with it or
desire a new machine. I did get an Infinium for beach/water work, but in its class I am well satisfied with
the Gold Scanner. There were some changes along the way, the early ones had 3 nine volt batteries and
were designed by John Earle I believe. The later ones with 4 AA batteries were a George Payne design
(I believe) and had a 3 tone discrimination if I remember right. They were as hot a nugget machine as
was available at the time. Yours I believe doesn't have a ground balance control, but should have a notch
on the discriminator. Very good coinshooters, relic machines etc. Also fairly fast recovery during target
sweeps. You will like it, they are classic detectors.

I have a compass xp pro with 2 8inch coils and a 12 inch coil has anyone ever used the 12 inch coil and what results have they had with it .Regards John

Hello John,
The 12" will give you more coverage out in open areas, ball fields, school grounds, old relic sites and such.
You'll gain about 1/2 inch on depth along with greater coverage, And still detect the tiniest finds with the XP-PRO.
Great machine, one of the few hidden secrets in our hobby the variable filter XP-PRO.

Hey guys...just fishing here.
I used to own an XP Pro with the 8 and 12...sold it while in maine to a really nice guy who's yard I used to detect and really wish I hadn't.
If anyone decides to part with theirs please shoot me a msg...I know it well and could give it a great home. lol

I just dug out my compass XP Pro that I purchased back in 1989. Everything seems to be in order. I am new to this forum so I apologize if this question has been asked before but I thought I would ask it again anyways. I noticed that the back of the box there's a plug that can be removed and a reset button. What happens if you press the reset button. Also I was curious is compass still in existence in Forest Grove. I know they went out of business but thought I'd ask anyways.

Compass is no longer in business, if you ever need repair Keith Wills out of Texas will repair the unit.
XP-Pro Plus is a good model, great for iron ridden sites or for coin shooting.
My memory is terrible, but I do know the small red switch behind the small cap at rear of housing is not a reset button.
Believe it was intended for UK users, mineralization or the iron ridden terrian is quite different there and the red switch changed something maybe to a preset position.
Someone on the Compass forum would know, you need to be a member though. I'm not a member there anymore, so I can't Google and view past post pertaining to the red switch.
Just leave it were it is, shouldn't have issues operating it at it's present location.

Inside is what Compass referred to as the 'European' switch. In addition to a vertical pot(adjusted ground balance in the all metal mode),there is also a horizontal slide switch. This switch allowed GB adjustment for either All Metal mode or Discriminate mode. This feature was added by Compass around 1990.
Compass went out of business back in 1994. Due to a factory fire(suspicious). Steve Goss resurrected it in the late 1990s. The first Compass Scanner series he made were good,but the late run units suffered from missing parts. I should know as I purchased one of his later units.
