Someone sits in a restaurant, consuming a large meal, filled with fatty food that they wash down with a soft drink. They then finish off with a large bowl of chocolate ice cream covered in hot fudge. That night, before going to bed (and having a little snack before then, too), they get on their knees to pray. Part of their prayer is,

Back during the Great Floods of the 1970's, there was a joke that was going around.

It went something like this.

As the flood began, A man in the path of the flood, prayed to God to spare him. As the flood waters came into his yard, the local fire department came around to his home and urged to leave while he still could. The man replied that he was putting his faith in the Lord and would wait for Him to save him. The water was five feet deep in his living room, when the Sheriff came in a Jon boat and pleaded with him to climb out his second story window and to get into the boat. Again, the man replied that he was nto relying on any earthly measures to save him that the Lord would provide.

The Mississippi River continued to rise and he was soon forced to perch on his roof top, to avoid the lapping water at his roof's edge. A National Guard helicopter approached him and lowered a rescue swimmer onto the roof to retrieve him. The man protested becausae he was certain that God, and his faith in God and prayer would insure his safety.. The helicopter departed.

The Mississppi rose during the night and having no place to further climb to avoid the water, the man was swept away and died.

As he stood before the Lord, he exclaimed. "God, I prayed to you to save me, I put all my faith in You to rescue me from the flood. Why did you not spare me.

God replied. "I sent the local fire department, the Sheriff, and the National Guard to snatch you to safety. What more did you want of Me?"

Indeed welcome Nester. There's an important lesson in your story, in that we must do our part to trust the Lord to guide us but we must recognized His guidence when He provides it. We simply cannot go through the motions of being a follower of Christ but a doer also.
