Just got home from church Praise Team practice last night and Sherry said Josh (Casey's husband) had found some things he wanted to show me and get my opinion on. He is cutting grass and cleaning up trash on properties for someone who is 'prettying things up' to sell the houses. Guess most of these were bought for back taxes and now being sold. Josh was told he coule have anything he finds plus gets paid for cleaning up. So, what did he find?
He had two jewelry boxes. I was told to take my loupe just in case. Lots of jewelry, mostly pretty stuff from Avon and from Sarah Coventry. Guessing the price of these items were anywhere from say $20 to maybe $40 each when they were new. He had several rings that were 10K and 14K, a McDonald's (restaurant) graduation ring, another ring of a graduation sort of setting (forgot what it was but pretty), some rings had 'stones; - one marked CZ let me know it wasn't a real diamond but it looked like he had some that may well have been diamonds (with gold bands and good settings and designs). There was a Catholic cross/necklace and several other crosses (one was 925 silver). He had several items marked 'Italy', '925' and 'Sterling Silver'. A pretty good haul just in the one jewelry box.
The other jewelry box contained coins and other items...one was a Silver Certificate dollar bill. A Canadian dollar which looked to be silver, some Buffalo nickels (most dates worn off except one was 1929), various foreign coins from places like France, Costa Rica, Bermuda, Germany, England and others. Josh told me 'there is more still there'. He is using my lawn mower so I will probably get a chance to look around
when I bring the lawn mower to him.
The key to why all the foreign coins may lie in 2 pieces of 'jewelry' I found in the first box. One was an Army SIgnal Corp lapel pin, the other I believe to be an Army lapel pin for an Army Officer ( the US pin on brass background). Also, you might remember me in the past mentioning Commander's Coins (Challenge Coins). He had 2. One was for the Army - think it was something about the First Sergeants something or other...not up on Army Sargeants but know it was a Top Sargeant in the Army, and it had a design of the Pentagon and on top of the Pentagon design was some 3 pointed design I had never seen before. Can't describe the design - sorry. The other was a Constitution Coin, celebrating the Bicentennial of the Constitution. 2 dates did not sound right to me on the coin...1787 and 1987 ???? I thought the dates would have been 1776 and 1976 but now realize that was the date of the signing of the Declaration of Independence - not the Constitution.
The reverse side of it had the Preamble "We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence,[1] promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America."

Actually of all the things found, Josh loved this Wolfman halloween mask he found.
There was still more!!! He has a Skil saw, an electric limb trimmer (mini chain saw), handheld aircraft type spotlight, a 20 ton jack and much more.
Sometimes I guess one happens to be in the right place at the right time. Josh seems to be there now as he said there is a freezer/refrigerator, beds, etc, still inside the house. I did ask if I might be able to metal detect around the property...which he has to cut first before I could ever swing the coil if I get permission. Will have to wait and see. Will let you know more of his 'findings'.
Doesn't it seem unfair he should find all those gold rings and other silver things and not even own a metal detector ?????
Glad things are working out for him and he is making some money. Some of that gold will be helpful to pay their bills too I am sure.
Oh if you would please pray for Casey to make the right decisions...the high school told her she has to attend adult ed classes now she is pregnant and married. Adult ed has no classes that she has not already taken...so anything she does would be counter productive and would take twice as long to get a diploma. She wants to go back to the high school and finish her education BUT she alteady has 'boys' wanting her even though she is married. Josh does not want her to go back to the cesspool of sex at the school....she needs prayers.
