Core material

New pennies, Zink core. Dimes, quarters, halves, dollars?? I'm assuming all have the same material in the core. Given that, our detector reading related to size of the core. Again an assumption is it's a bronze component. That assumption based on copper pennies reading in the silver range. Must not contain much nickel as that range very low in comparison.

I dig a lot of "reds", no silver remaining due to fertilizer or something in the soil. Reading is still within a point.

Unless something changed recently, US dimes, quarters, halves, and dollar coins after 1965 are still clad coins (Copper core with copper/nickel alloy bonded to the surface).
The red on the clad is from the nickel alloy. Many nickels buried for a while will also have the red patina.
